Clothing Drive for Orphans at PolishFest '03

PolishFest '03, to be held September 27 and 28 at 250 Maxwell Road, Latham, NY, is sponsoring a clothing drive for the State Children's Home in Brzesko, Poland.

Latham NY (PRWEB) September 26, 2003 --PolishFest '03, to be held September 27 and 28 at 250 Maxwell Road, Latham, NY, is sponsoring a clothing drive for the State Children's Home in Brzesko, Poland. The State Children's Home is in need of NEW articles of children's clothing. Specific clothing items requested include children's sweat suits and pants. These items are needed for everyday use and for athletic activities. The children are between 10 and 16 years of age. The State Children's Home has also requested financial donations to be used toward the purchase of a new van to transport the children to school, activities, and medical appointments. Any financial donations collected will go first toward the costs of mailing the donated clothing, with the remainder of the funds sent on to the State Children's Home for use toward the new van. Donations may be brought to the festival gate.

PolishFest '03 would like to open the eyes and hearts of festival-goers to the plight of needy orphans in Poland. Prior to 1991, orphanages in Poland received government subsidies that allowed them to maintain services that met the needs of the children in their care. In recent years, cutbacks in government support coupled with the overall decline in the Euro Region economy have increased the challenges faced by the children and their caregivers. "In Poland there are 350 orphanages - the highest number in Central Europe - including about 100 smaller orphanages run by families. They are home to about 80,000 children" The Warsaw Voice, September 2002.
