$300 Million Re-Development Project Approved For Gilbert and Bennett Wire Mill Site

On September 8th the Redding Zoning Commission unanimously approved Georgetown Land Development Companys (GLDC) Master Plan for the redevelopment of the former Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill site, a $300 million project. The Master Plan, as approved, is currently one of the largest redevelopment projects undertaken in Connecticut.

GEORGETOWN, CT (PRWEB) October 8, 2004 -- On September 8th the Redding Zoning Commission unanimously approved Georgetown Land Development Companys (GLDC) Master Plan for the redevelopment of the former Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill site, a $300 million project. The Master Plan, as approved, is currently one of the largest redevelopment projects undertaken in Connecticut.

Stephen Soler, President of GLDC, stated: After two years of hard work the Redding Zoning Commission has approved the Master Plan for redeveloping the former Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill. When we began this process we wanted to ensure the town had an active voice in deciding the final outcome of this project. Since then we have actively encouraged and solicited feedback from the entire community. Last fall we held seven days of public meetings dedicated to understanding what residents and neighbors would like to see built. Todays approval means the public/private partnership we all created is a model for success."

Soler continued: With this approval we can now move onto the next phase, ensuring the vision residents helped create becomes a reality. This project is going to benefit not just the residents of Georgetown, but all of Redding and the state of Connecticut.

The Master Plan, submitted on June 9, 2004, details the redevelopment of the 55+/- acre former wire mill site. It contains: 416 residential units; over 300,000 square feet of mixed use commercial space, a proposed train station on the Danbury spur of the Metro North New Haven Line and a new performing arts black box theatre.

The Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill site is owned by Georgetown Land Development Company (GLDC), a socially conscious real estate development firm, based in Georgetown, Connecticut. GLDC integrates smart growth ideals with sustainable green development principals. As owners of the 55 +/- acre site, GLDCs goal is to historically rehabilitate significant buildings and redevelop the property consistent with the towns current master plan insert of development for downtown Georgetown. Further information about the site, as well as the Master Plan, can be found at: www.georgetownland.com.
