Spirit of America Tour Only One Of Its Kind To Bring Free Headliner Concerts To Domestic Military Bases
On Veterans Day at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, the Spirit of America Tour will bring country music star Clint Black to play before an estimated crowd of 15,000 men and women in uniform and their families. By volunteering his time and talent, Clint Black is adding his name to the list of celebrities who have volunteered to boost the morale of troops on domestic US military bases as part of the unprecedented Spirit of America Tour.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 9, 2004 -- The Spirit of America Tour is the brainchild of retired Los Angeles attorney Robert Rosenthal. When Rosenthal saw the Twin Towers crumbling on 9/11, he decided he needed to do something for America. He and his wife, Nina, hit upon the idea of arranging volunteer shows exclusively for domestic military bases as a gift to the military because no one else was making such an effort. Since its creation in 2002 as an effort to raise the morale of the men and women of the Armed Forces along with their families, the Spirit of America Tour, a project of the non-profit Rosenthal Foundation, has brought over 44 headliner shows to the USAs domestic military bases. Rosenthal is associated with Cathy Gurley, a prominent entertainment industry manager based in Nashville, Tennessee, who acts as the tours national liaison. Rosenthal, who finances the entire operation, has, with Gurleys help, arranged all 44 of these shows from the Spirit of America Tour office in Burbank, California (the tour has no additional staff). In 2004 alone, there have been over 21 Spirit of America Tour concerts on bases throughout the United States and over the course of the past two years, over 34 music stars have volunteered for this effort.
Stars who have volunteered their time and talent include Bill Ray Cyrus, Charlie Daniels, The Bellamy Brothers, The Oak Ridge Boys, Riders in the Sky, Dennis Miller, Travis Tritt, David Clayton-Thomas and Blood Sweat and Tears, Mel Tillis, Patty Loveless, Jo Dee Messina, and Lee Greenwood, to name just a few.
For Robert Rosenthal, arranging and financing the Spirit of America Tour is a labor of love: I know that the Spirit of America Tour is making a difference when I read letters and e-mails from soldiers and sailors telling me about the impact of our concerts." Robert was especially touched by a letter he received from Air Force Colonel Andrew Weaver of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. It said, You have left an indelible mark in our hearts; we can not thank you enough for what you are doing for our men and women in uniform and their families."
These generous entertainers have played to capacity audiences of thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen and their families at US military bases throughout the United States. These concerts are a gift to the men and women in uniform and their families – they are closed to the public and completely free to all military and civilian personnel and their families on the bases.
The Spirit of America Tour is one of the ways that major entertainers have helped to boost and maintain the morale of Americas Armed Forces and their caring families, and it is the only project of its kind dedicated exclusively to bringing entertainment to domestic US military bases. Rosenthal adds, I wanted to express my appreciation, support and confidence in our troops by arranging and offering these free concerts. My work on the Spirit of America Tour is my way of paying the United States back for the enjoyment of the benefits of living in this country. For the entertainment community, I believe that the Spirit of America Tour expresses their patriotism in a most positive way".
Although all of the artists volunteer their time to do these shows at military bases, the Spirit of America Tour does pay their reasonable expenses so they are not out of pocket. In addition, no officer or director of the Rosenthal Foundation receives any remuneration, direct or indirect, from the Spirit of America Tour.
