Fiction writer uses her passion for Native American culture and the southwest to create OKLAHOMA'S GOLD.

OKLAHOMA'S GOLD takes the reader on an interesting journey of adventure, mystery, and murder. It is a heart-warming tale told with southern charm and cultural Native American flare.

Green, OH (PRWEB) June 24, 2004 -- Stored away in a cedar chest among many souvenirs of her childhood, one can find the first trinkets of Kathy Longs collection of Native American culture: a turquoise coin purse decorated with blue and white beads and a frayed, well-worn beaded bracelet. They were purchased when I was probably seven or so. My mother and I used to visit the Indian Trading Post up in the Allegheny Mountains near our family cabin," the author explains. Starting at a very young age I devoured anything Indian — books, jewelry, clothing — I wanted to know everything." Combining that passion with her love for writing, Kathy knew exactly what to use for her first project, the mystery novel, OKLAHOMAS GOLD .

Long chose a small town in the state of Oklahoma as the novels contemporary setting for a very valid reason. I wanted a location with a significant Native American population. Well, you couldnt find a better choice since Oklahoma boasts more than sixty different Indian tribes!" The story is an exciting, fast-paced mystery loaded with southwestern charm. Characters such as Emma Thomas, the town matriarch, demonstrate the strong-spirited, feisty side of its people, but mixed with a warm, caring nature. The story has its heroes as well as its villains. Jess Clinton, the young newcomer, and Daniel, the Indian ranch hand, work together in fighting the bad guys. Of course, no one in the story is truly certain who those bad guys are. So, at every turn they —Jess, Daniel, Emma — unearth more clues in trying to discover who attacked Fred Clinton and to find out why most of the Indian ranchers are being vandalized. Add to the mix some Native American magic, myth, and medicine; mysterious happenings from the past; and a murder or two, you have one entertaining novel.
