Zacksongs Music and Garrin Benfield Announce the Release of His New CD

Zacksongs Music is pleased to announce the release of Garrin Benfield's third full-length studio CD, "Where Joy Kills Sorrow." The disc, being released by Zacksongs Music on October 5, contains eleven original tracks all composed and co-arranged by Garrin Benfield.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 20, 2004 -- Zacksongs Music is pleased to announce the release of Garrin Benfield's third full-length studio CD, "Where Joy Kills Sorrow." The disc, being released on Zacksongs Music on October 5, contains eleven original tracks all composed and co-arranged by Garrin Benfield. In addition to writing all of the songs, Benfield also claims a co-producer credit, performs all of the vocals, plays all of the electric, acoustic and baritone guitars, mandolin and most of the bass parts. The album packaging also contains original artwork by Benfield. "This album is my chance to take things into my own hands, musically and in a broader sense. I feel more invested in every aspect of this project than I ever have."

Though the album is laden with Benfield's personality, style and worldview, he did have help. Legendary album photographer Greg Gorman provides the cover shot, award winning graphic designers Danny Jackobs and Rob Corwin put together the CD packaging and long-time collaborator Michael Rodriguez, who has worked with Boz Scaggs, Bonnie Raitt and others, gets a co-producer credit. Release parties are being planned in San Francisco on September 30th at The Independent and in New York on October 2nd at Arlene's Grocery. A subsequent national tour is being promoted to radio and retail outlets by Flanagan Promotions of Los Angeles.

"Where Joy Kills Sorrow" is a move for Benfield into the world of pop music with a serious bent. "I wanted to be more focused on this record. My previous CDs were a sampling of all the different styles I was interested in, but this time, I tried to create something that held together really well." Tracks like the Beatle-esque "Answers," the Aimee Mann inspired "What You Wanted to Hear" and the Floyd-ian opening song," The Loop," will clue the listener in on Benfield's influences and will surely appeal to fans of well constructed, accessible music.

Benfield, known for virtuoso guitar playing, relentless touring and a smooth, simmering voice, received critical success with his previous release "Nowhere is Brighter." The disc was named "Top 10 CD of 2002" by editors in Performing Songwriter and Acoustic Guitar magazines. In addition, Benfield has been asked to contribute to numerous compilation discs, performed at several major music festivals, been a finalist at the Telluride Troubadour Competition twice, opened for numerous well known artists and won the hearts of music lovers across the country!
