Friends of the Border Patrol and Local 1613 of the National Border Patrol Council Oppose CA Driver's License for Illegal Aliens Bill
Statement of joint opposition to SB-60, CA State Sen. Gil Cedillo's driver's license for illegal aliens bill, scheduled to be heard by the Senate Transportation Committee, on 03-15-05.
(PRWEB) March 16, 2005 -- Friends of the Border Patrol and Local 1613 of the National Border Patrol Council (San Diego, CA) announce their joint opposition to State Sen. Gil Cedillos SB-60. This bill would give drivers licenses to illegal aliens. Also, Andy Ramirez, FBP Chairman, is going to testify in opposition to Cedillos bill tomorrow at the State Capitol, Rm 4203, and presenting an Executive Summary on behalf of Joe Dassaro, president of Local 1613 of the National Border Patrol Council.
Joseph N. Dassaro, President of Local 1613 stated the following, The National Border Patrol Council, which is the union for Border Patrol Agents nationwide, is absolutely opposed to drivers licenses for illegal aliens. This type of legislation constitutes one of the most severe threats to our national security."
Mr. Ramirez is presenting an Executive Summary, written to address SB-60, on my behalf to the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee. This statement is unprecedented, and will represent the field agents perspective in the battle against illegal immigration and terrorism," concluded President Dassaro.
Andy Ramirez, Chairman of Friends of the Border Patrol, a citizens organization created to support the U.S. Border Patrol Agents stated, This bill in particular is the absolute worst type of measure possible. The FBI, Department of Justice, and Department of Homeland Security are addressing the threat from Al-Qaeda terrorists to our nation. FBI Director Robert Mueller has informed Congress that illegal aliens from countries with ties to al-Qaida have crossed into the U.S. from Mexico using false identities using our porous U.S. southern border for illegal entry. This border is porous due to insufficient budget appropriations by the Bush Administration."
Sen. Cedillos bill would give that gateway identification document to terrorists, and allow them to use the Matricula Consular ID card to gain access to the California DMV. This is dangerous. Cedillo and his pro-illegal alien bills appear to be violating Federal Law by providing an inducement for illegal aliens to enter the U.S. illegally," continued Ramirez.
FBP is honored to be working with the Local 1613 of the National Border Patrol Council. We look forward to defeating this bill."
FBP has attached the statement of opposition, submitted by Andy Ramirez last week to the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee, and releases it to the media. While the Local 1613's Exec Summary will be released to the media as soon as it's available.
Joseph N. Dassaro is President of Local 1613 of the National Border Patrol Council (www.nbpc1613.org), the largest local union representing United States Border Patrol Agents in the nation. He is a thirteen-year veteran of the Border Patrol. He also possesses a B.A. in Labor Studies from the National Labor College and is completing his final semester of graduate work in pursuit of his M.A. in Legal and Ethical Studies through the University Of Baltimore. Mr. Dassaro is currently engaged in both academic and field research into the relationship of federal labor relations and organizational efficiency.
