Silhouette Roto 2.0 Ships, Layers, Match Moving and More

In a short time Silhouette Roto has become the standard for film rotoscoping. A greatly upgraded Version 2 will shortly be available for Windows(R), Mac OS(R), and Linux(R) systems. A new layering / grouping system means roto has fewer key frames than ever. Film format masks, LUTs, support for Apple(R) Shake(R) 4 shapes and more round out a powerful Version 2.0. Free upgrade to existing owners.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 29, 2005 -- Silhouette FX, LLC is pleased to announce the imminent availability of a major new release of Silhouette Roto, the roto system that's underpinning visual effects production at major post houses around the world. Version 2.0 of Silhouette Roto (SR) adds a sophisticated layering / grouping system that enables individual layers to have their own tracking and stabilization information. This means the basic motion of an object being roto'd is automatically compensated for and keyframes only need to exist on frames on which the shape of the object changes. This results in a dramatic reduction of key frames requiring manual touchup, speeding the rotoscoping process to new levels of efficiency.

Adam Bradley, a Weta Digital senior roto artist, said: "A film like King Kong requires uncompromising roto software that offers speed, efficiency and an intuitive workflow. The innovative engineering team at Silhouette recognize this and are always responsive to our needs. Silhouette Roto combines unmatched features with flexibility, support and development and is proving a key tool in our drive to deliver Kong."

SR V2 adds support for look-up-tables (LUTs) for processing 10-bit log files to its preexisting handling of floating point images such as those from the OpenEXR format. Exposure, black point and white point can be adjusted in real-time inside the viewer to see exactly what you need to see.

Projects are now automatically saved at user specified intervals and customizable film masks are overlaid over the viewer so that roto artists need concern themselves only with what will be projected. Tracker data can now be imported and exported and Apple Shake 4.0 shape export is now provided (in addition to the existing support for Shake 3.5). SR V2 also adds support for full keyboard customization and enhanced pipeline integration capabilities via Python scripting. Finally, SR V2 provides support for Silhouette Paint, the streamlined new paint system from Silhouette FX, LLC.

Also effective with the release of Version 2 is a price increase for the stand-alone and plug-in versions of Silhouette Roto. SR V2, as a plug-in for Mac OS and Windows systems, retails for $495 (USD) and is compatible with Adobe® After Effects(R) and Apple Final Cut Pro(R). As a stand-alone application for Windows, Mac OS and Linux systems, Silhouette Roto retails for $595 (USD). Both the stand-alone and the plug-in can be purchased together for $695 (USD). More information about Silhouette Roto including system compatibility information can be found at http://www.silhouettefx.com.

Silhouette FX, LLC will be exhibiting at SIGGRAPH 2005 in booth 2051.
