BorgWarner Turbo Systems Becomes Exclusive Turbo Supplier To GM's Sport Compact Drag Racing Program

GM Racings Sport Compact Program Continues to Improve Speed and Power with Boost from BorgWarners AirWerks Program

Asheville, NC (PRWEB) August 19, 2005 -- BorgWarner Turbo Systems is pleased to announce an agreement to become the exclusive turbo supplier to General Motors Sport Compact Drag Racing program. Together, they will continue to test and tune high performance turbochargers produced by the BorgWarner Turbo Systems AirWerks program. BorgWarner Turbo Systems has been providing the boost for the GM Pro Outlaw front-wheel-drive drag racing car since the beginning of the 2005 sport compact race season.

Teaming up with GM Racing is a great opportunity for the BW-AirWerks program because of GMs history as a highly visible, leading-edge program with a strong track record for success - all the things we expect in a solid motorsports partner" says Steve McKinley, BorgWarner Turbo Systems Business Development and Sales Director. Thom Miles, Marketing Manager for BorgWarner Turbo Systems, North American Aftermarket adds: We are looking forward to a lasting relationship with GM racing as well as expanding our product line into the Chevy Cobalt performance/tuner market."

The right turbocharger can mean the difference between winning and losing in drag racing," says Carmen Smith, Program Manager, GM Sport Compact Drag Racing. A good working relationship and a high level of support are key when it comes to such a critical component. GM is both fortunate and excited to have such an excellent partner as BorgWarner. We are pushing the envelope of front-wheel-drive, 4 cylinder performance, and BorgWarner's expertise in aerodynamics and turbocharger technology is absolutely invaluable."

BorgWarner Turbo Systems via its BW-AirWerks program has created a custom-hybrid S400/110 turbocharger specifically for the GM Racing program. The S400/110 excels with, a high-pressure ratio compressor stage utilizing extended-tip technology a high efficiency turbine stage and high-speed bushing bearings. This specialized turbo configuration provides ultra-fast response and more than 58 PSI of boost, without the speed and hardware lifetime limitations of ball-bearing units. The BW-AirWerks program will continue to develop new product for the fast growing performance-tuner market with data gathered from its sport compact racing associations.
