Young Celebrities Judge Recycled Art Contest at Trash to Treasure Kids Recycling Fair at STAR ECO Station

If piles of paper, bundles of bottles and loads of aluminum don’t sound like heaps of fun to you, then you’ve never been to STAR ECO Station’s Trash to Treasure, a celebration of America Recycles 2005. The Trash to Treasure recycled Art Conest, with $300 grand prize, will be judged by a panel of young celebrities, including: Amy Bruckner (Phil of the Future). (PRWEB) October 21, 2005 -- If piles of paper, bundles of bottles and loads of aluminum don’t sound like heaps of fun to you, then you’ve never been to STAR ECO Station’s Trash to Treasure, a celebration of America Recycles 2005. The fair puts the three environmental R’s into practice with environmentally conscious art, games, and cool activities that Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. A panel of celebrity judges will award the $300 Grand Prize to the winner of the Trash to Treasure Recycled Art Contest. Trash to Treasure is at STAR ECO Station, Saturday November 19, 2005, 10am-4pm.

America Recycles Day 2005 is celebrated with marches, clean-ups, recycling fairs and community festivals nationwide to support and encourage recycling by individuals and communities. California has participated in America Recycles Day since its national inception in 1997. www.americarecycles.org.

Trash to Treasure Kids Fair is one of many in an exciting series of educational community events presented by STAR ECO Station, and only America Recycles Day event in Los Angeles designed to encourage a commitment to recycling in the children’s community.

In the weeks leading up to the Recycled Art Contest, local children are challenged to create 4-foot sculptures off site entirely out of recycled materials. Teams of students from all over Los Angeles, ranging from 1st to 12th grade will bring their unique kid-creations and compete for the $300 grand prize.

The competition will be judged by a panel of young celebrities:

In addition, kids will have a blast with some earth-first, heart-smart games like the “Trash Trails” relay race and the “2-Liter Dash.” Activities like the Feed Your Flowers composting station and the Collaged Creations art center show families how to creatively and effectively use items that would otherwise be considered trash.

STAR ECO Station is a non-profit environmental education and wildlife rescue center, designed to transport visitors to a tropical jungle setting! Through a partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, STAR ECO Station rescues and houses "at-risk" and endangered exotic wildlife.

Visitors study ecology and environmentalism on a wild and fun encounter with rescued tropical birds, exotic reptiles, wildcats and ocean life. Education outreach, Gifted And Talented Education, wildlife assemblies and community events reach students and their families in over 40 school districts throughout California.

With a mission of Preservation through Education, STAR ECO Station is dedicated to creating a new generation of environmentalists to protect the Earth’s resources.

REGULAR HOURS OF OPERATION: Open to the public on weekends 10am-4pm, and Thursday and Friday from 1-5pm. Open weekdays to school groups with reservations. Hands-on eco-educational tours provide quality environmental science education aligned with California State Standards.
    
ADMISSION: Trash to Treasure is a FREE EVENT. Tours to see the rescued animals are $5 for children, $6 for seniors, and $7 for adults. The STAR ECO Station hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, including community events, workshops, social/professional networking events, and children’s birthday parties.
