Oregon Chapter Eighth Air Force Historical Society Deploys Web Site
A new web site 8thafhsoregon.com has been created to allow others to share in the history of the Oregon members of the "Mighty Eighth."
(PRWEB) November 16, 2005 -- At the November 12, 2005 quarterly meeting it was announced to the 78 members present that the chapter's web site is available at the URI of: http://www.8thafhsoregon.com
The web site's goal is to provide a premier location to allow people to study original photos documents, and mission data. This will make it a useful location to learn about the 8th Air Force during World War II.
Members of the chapter have donated many photos, documents, orders, and their own accounts to the chapter archive and these are being made available in PDF format for others to read.
These documents, instead of being unknown to researchers as a result of being stored locally in Oregon (and subject to loss and wear from handling), are instead being scanned and placed onto the web site in Adobe® PDF format which allows others to access them.
An initial set of PDFs have been posted into the archive and are already indexed by the major search engines of the Internet.
Some examples include strike photos in Germany on Berlin, in France at St. Lo (on July 27, 1944), formation layout with ship number, crew names, orders, personal accounts, and much much more.
This web site will allow members who cannot commute to the quarterly meetings in Beaverton to have access to the meeting transcripts and video clips (the presentation portion of each meeting is now videotaped) so they can benefit, contribute, and interact with the chapter using the web.
If you wish to join the Oregon Chapter of the 8th AFHS, membership forms are on the web site. Dues are $35 a year (which includes the initial dues for the National Chapter).
