Historians Private Treasures Unearthed as His Estranged Wifes Trial Approaches
As Mickey Mishnes estranged wifes murder trial draws nearer, more and more previously unknown treasures in his private collection are turning up.
(PRWEB) February 7, 2005 -- Ironically, as Mishnes estranged wifes trial draws nearer, more and more previously unknown treasures in his private collection are turning up. His family was pleased with the overwhelming turnout at the first auction in January and that so many supported Mickey's memory. Worldwide attendance was at its peak with hundreds of bidders bidding live via the Internet from all corners of the planet. Once again John Farkas,CAI and Connie Rose of Antiques and Estate Auctioneers in Wellington, Ohio will be host to the evidence of an entire lifetime of knowledgeable pursuit. It is anticipated that at the upcoming auction on February 26, 2005 at 11:00 AM an excited crowd will assemble to see the many items which were selected for this special event due to their rare quality and high value. Live Internet bidding will again be available at the auction galleries web site, www.estateauctioneers.com.
The gallery is set: rows of perfectly preserved pieces of art along with moments of fame lay flat under glass. An entire room of one mans lifetime collection awaits its February audience. A multiplicity of framed images race around the room. Women twist out of block colors advertising products long gone. Actresses that have since aged are caught like pinned butterflies in a polished frame. The posters and works of art suggest a life of great travels to intriguing and exotic places. Walking amongst this elite collection is reminiscent of a crystallized archeological find—objects are still, mute—yet they suggest the glory of a time where velocity and youth reigned.
Sitting in this gallery, it is easy to see the child that Mishne kept alive in his spirit. Planes, trains, and automobiles plaster every available inch of space. Piles of collectors edition childrens books sit on tables, suggesting the vivid and playful imagination of the previous owner. One of the many posters includes an 1893 Divan Japonais by Henri Toulouse-Lautrec. Camera Works by Stieglitz and boyhood photos of J.H. Laritgue are interesting discoveries in Mishnes extensive collection. Available in this auction are: a 1969 Mehari-Citreon, signed prints by Mishnes close friend Jack Juratovic, and collectible prints by Fairchild, Taylor, Helck and Nockolds. Many of these prints are also signed by the driver/pilot featured. Auto hood ornaments, Automotive Co. Stock Certificates, and photographs signed by Lartigue are also up for auction. This particular auction is likened to an archeological expedition into the accoutrements of one mans life. This auction is catered for the specialist, the collector, but especially the playful at heart.
A certain artistic sensibility pervades the upcoming auction, for among the features are works that reach beyond the interests of transportation enthusiasts and reveal the presence of an eye for the beautiful. One must note the extensive collection of illustrations by Arthur Rackham in such works of fiction as William Shakespeares A Midsummer Nights Dream, or in a rare book Peter Pan Portfolio. The Gotschke watercolors depict tiny sun-drenched moments, each one unique. Many Toulouse-Lautrec lithographs dance delicately in minimalist line and in turn speak of a man who has very delicate taste. An extensive series of original French advertisements circa 1930 are many of the desirables featured in this auction. Mishnes appreciation of early photography is also represented—complete with an original November 1913 Camera Work Magazine.
In order to better serve those whose interests are peaked, Antiques and Estate Auctioneers are offering two special previews: Thursday, February 17th from 2-7 PM and the following Thursday, February 24th 2-7 PM. The auction will be held on Saturday February 26 at 11 A.M. at 44777 State Route 18, Wellington, Ohio. There remains two additional auctions, one in both March and April. The April event will conclude with the auction of Mishnes residence located in Medina Ohio. Antiques and Estate Auctioneers may be reached at 440-647-4007 or at www.estateauctioneers.com.
