Alison Krauss and Union Station Featuring Jerry Douglas, David Grisman, Catie Curtis and Al Kooper Join Line-Up Celebrating Passims 47th Anniversary

Passim Folk Music and Cultural Center in Cambridge, Mass. will celebrate the 47th Anniversary of Club 47 with a three-day celebration with performances, stories and images from 47 years of Passims history. The celebration will take place May 19-21, 2005 and will feature two consecutive nights of concerts at Harvards Sanders Theatre and a free concert on Cambridge Common, co-sponsored by the Cambridge Arts Council. Perfomers at the concerts will include: Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas,Richard Thompson, David Grisman and Old School Freight Train, Geoff Muldaur, Dar Williams, Tom Rush, Catie Curtis, Dr. Al Kooper and the Funky Faculty, Lori McKenna, Ellis Paul, Sarah Borges, and the Silver Leaf Gospel Singers of Roxbury.

Cambridge, MA – April 4, 2005 – Country superstar Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, musician / composer David Grisman, singer-songwriter Catie Curtis, and esteemed producer and legendary musician Al Kooper have been added to the line-up of artists that will perform together on May 19, 20 and 21 in a series of benefit concerts for Cambridges nonprofit Passim Folk Music and Cultural Center. The concerts mark the 47th anniversary of Club 47, the historic folk music venue in Harvard Square and the predecessor to Club Passim.

Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas will join the line-up for Fridays Living Legends Award Concert honoring Robert L. Jones, producer of the Newport Folk Festival. Included on the same bill are Richard Thompson, David Grisman and Old School Freight Train, Geoff Muldaur and Dar Williams, among others. Recipient of the 2005 Living Legends Award, Bob Jones performed at Club 47 in the 1960s and was instrumental in creating links between music clubs, coffeehouses and folk festivals in his role at Newport.

Catie Curtis and Dr. Al Kooper and the Funky Faculty were added to the line-up for Thursdays event: 47x47: A Retrospective. Also performing on Thursday is Tom Rush, Lori McKenna, Ellis Paul, Sarah Borges, and the Silver Leaf Gospel Singers of Roxbury. Thursdays concert will showcase performances from four decades of Club Passims history.

Jerry Douglas is the winner of the 2004 National Heritage Fellowship award given by The National Endowment for the Arts. Awarded for his contribution to the excellence of Dobro guitar music, the fellowship award is the countrys highest honor in the folk and traditional arts.    

47@47 will be a three-day celebration with performances, stories and images from 47 years of Passims history. All of the performers for the three-day festival are donating their time and talent to this cause, and the funds raised by the events will benefit the Passim Folk Music and Cultural Center, allowing the center to expand and continue its commitment to folk music and the community while becoming a true center of education, research and performance.

Hosted by Tom Rush, the concert will feature performances from Tom, Lori McKenna, Al Kooper, Catie Curtis, Ellis Paul, Silver Leaf Gospel Singers and Sarah Borges.
· Friday, May 20, Sanders Theatre: the Second Living Legends Award Concert
This performance will honor Robert L. Jones, producer of the Newport Folk Festival. Hosted by Jim Rooney, the concert will feature Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, Richard Thompson, David Grisman and Old School Freight Train, Geoff Muldaur, Dar Williams and Ollabelle.
· Saturday, May 21, Cambridge Common: Festival 47 -- A Concert for Cambridge

To thank the community, Passim will host a free music festival on the Cambridge Common, co-sponsored by the Cambridge Arts Council. The concert will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a childrens performance featuring Moussa Traore and Timinandi and will continue with performances from Chris Smither, The Resophonics, Jim Kweskin, Jake Armerding, Rachael Davis, Jabe Beyer, Spider John Koerner, Christopher Williams, and The Loomers. Childrens activities will continue throughout the day with face painting, a dance tent with instructors of various styles, arts and crafts, storytelling and much more, including activities coordinated by the Boston Childrens Museum.

Both shows at the Sanders Theatre will begin at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices for Thursday are $35, $50 and $100 (the $100 ticket includes a post-event VIP reception with the artists at Club Passim.) Friday ticket prices are $50, $100 and $250 (the $250 ticket includes a VIP reception with Bob Jones and the artists at Sanders Theatre.)
