Christian Rock Band Pawn" Selected to Record With Travis Wyrick While Facing a Test of Faith
Rossford, Ohio band, Pawn, a contemporary Christian Rock Band, finds itself at the center of a storm brewing over an issue about the separation of church and state. Now the band members have been selected to record a CD with nationally known producer Travis Wyrick in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Holland, OH (PRWEB / PRWEB) April 20, 2005 -- Normally a Christian Rock Band has very little controversy. Its mission is usually one of harmony and peace. Unfortunately, Rossford, Ohio band, Pawn, a contemporary Christian Rock Band, finds itself at the center of a storm brewing over an issue about the separation of church and state. Members of Pawn are left grappling with a powerful issue that has been endangering schools throughout the country.
Now the band members, Travis and Mark Montgomery, Rob Golden, Kyle Kleeberger and Tim Stausbaugh have been selected to record a CD with nationally known producer Travis Wyrick in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Travis Wyrick and his Lakeside Recording Studios is a state-of-the-art recording facility located in Knoxville. He has produced many worldwide releases under major and independent labels including Pillar, Charlie Daniels, POD, Toby Mac and Superchick. Additionally, he has won numerous nominations and awards for his work. This opportunity is certainly a chance of a lifetime but it comes on the heels of a major test of faith.
Pawn was scheduled to play at an anti-drug rally at Rossford High School in Rossford, Ohio. At the last minute school board members pulled the plug on the concert fearing a lawsuit from having a religious performance in a public school setting. The band took their plight to the public, including students in the school system. Over 90% of the student body has favorably embraced the anti-drug concert and the band.
When the news made media headlines both locally and nationally the Rutherford Institute began negotiations on behalf of the band hoping a compromise could be reached. When the school board decided to stand on its earlier decision, a lawsuit was filed on behalf of the band members.
Pawn has been together since 1998 when brothers Mark and Travis Montgomery put together their Christian team that began playing at local gatherings. With their powerful lyrics and great musical talent the band received several accolades and found themselves with a strong local following.
The band expanded to include Rob Golden, Kyle Kleeberger and Tim Strausbaugh. While Pawn focused on mainly secular concerts their music was quickly embraced and they won numerous awards at Northwest Ohio Battles of the Bands. These concerts opened doors and they were invited to play with well-known bands Sanctus Real, Stavesacre and Reliant K. Pawn is synergistic both musically and in friendship; a compliment to their maturity and ability.
The members of Pawn fear that their phenomenal musical talent and belief in Christian values may be overshadowed by a lengthy court battle. They will persevere because of their belief that all people have the same rights under the first amendment. The crusade may help to realign the thinking that has prevailed nationally.
While the court sorts out the issue, the band has decided to embark on the new journey, recording its second full length CD in Knoxville, Tenn. They will be working with Mr. Wyrick, who has worked with national Christian bands Pillar and Toby Mac, to bring their unique style to the national recording scene. While their work does include some religious references in the lyrics, their preference is a blend of rock and rap music with songs that reflect personal situations and real life values.
For the next few months Pawn will be faced with a roller coaster of issues; from the excitement of finally realizing their lifetime recording dream to standing up for their beliefs in a court of law. One thing is sure no matter what happens in court the five young band members of Pawn are sure their faith will see them through.
