Los Angeles (PRWEB) April 28, 2005 -- Country music star Miranda Lambert will play to a huge crowd of men and women in uniform at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 1st at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, TX, joining the list of celebrities who have volunteered their time and talent to boost the morale of troops on domestic U.S. military bases as part of the unprecedented and one-of-a-kind Spirit of America Tour.
Over 44 major music stars and entertainers have headlined shows in the past two years with big plans for Spirit Of America Tour 2005. The Spirit of America Tour is the only one of its kind in the country dedicated to bringing free headliner concerts to domestic military bases.
The Spirit of America Tour is the brainchild of and entirely financed by retired Los Angeles entertainment attorney Robert Rosenthal as a gift to the military. When Rosenthal saw the Twin Towers crumbling on 9/11, he decided he needed to do something for America. He and his wife, Nina, hit upon the idea of arranging volunteer shows with headliner acts exclusively for domestic military bases as a gift to the military because no one else was making such an effort.
Driven by this vision, Rosenthal put his money on the table, slashed through reams of red tape and single-handedly created the Tour in 2002 as an effort to raise the morale of the men and women of the Armed Forces along with their families. Since then, the Spirit of America Tour, a project of the non-profit Rosenthal Foundation, has brought over 44 headliner shows to the USAs domestic military bases, from bases close to large cities to bases in remote parts of the country.
Rosenthal is associated with Cathy Gurley, a prominent entertainment industry manager based in Nashville, Tennessee, who acts as the tours national liaison. Rosenthal, who finances the entire operation, has, with Gurleys help, arranged all 44 of these shows from the Spirit of America Tour office in Burbank, California (the tour has no additional staff). In 2004 alone, there were over 21 Spirit of America Tour concerts on bases throughout the United States, with 20 more concerts planned for 2005.
Stars who have volunteered their time and talent include Clint Black, Bill Ray Cyrus, Charlie Daniels, Lee Greenwood, The Bellamy Brothers, The Oak Ridge Boys, Riders in the Sky, Dennis Miller, Carrot Top, Travis Tritt, David Clayton-Thomas and Blood Sweat and Tears, Mel Tillis, Patty Loveless, Jo Dee Messina, and Lee Greenwood, to name just a few.
For Robert Rosenthal, arranging and financing the Spirit of America Tour is a labor of love: I know that the Spirit of America Tour is making a difference when I read letters and e-mails from soldiers and sailors telling me about the impact of our concerts." Robert was especially touched by a letter he received from Air Force Colonel Andrew Weaver of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. It said, You have left an indelible mark in our hearts; we can not thank you enough for what you are doing for our men and women in uniform and their families."
The Spirit of America Tour is the only project of its kind dedicated exclusively to bringing top-tier entertainment to domestic US military bases all over the country. Rosenthal adds, I wanted to express my appreciation, support and confidence in our troops by arranging and offering these free concerts. My work on the Spirit of America Tour is my way of paying the United States back for the enjoyment of the benefits of living in this country. For the entertainment community, I believe that the Spirit of America Tour expresses their patriotism in a most positive way."
These generous entertainers have played to capacity audiences of thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen and their families at US military bases throughout the United States. These concerts are a gift to the men and women in uniform and their families – they are closed to the public and completely free to all military and civilian personnel and their families on the bases.
Although all of the artists volunteer their time to do these shows at military bases, the Spirit of America Tour does pay their reasonable expenses so they are not out of pocket. No officer or director of the Rosenthal Foundation receives any remuneration, direct or indirect, from the Spirit of America Tour.
