The Lights Go Out on Hall of Fame Writer's Night - Power Failure, Rough Weather Can't Stop the Music or the Tournament
Despite all obstacles, the 38th Annual Music City Golf Classic, a.k.a. The Beckham Tournament, along with the Hall of Fame Writers' Night, raised over $10,000 for music scholarships.
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) May 9, 2005 -- The earth shook, the lights went out and then the music just got better. Nothing like a dramatic pause as legendary songwriters Richard Leigh, Roger Cook, Larry Henley and Wayne Carson found out at the annual Hall of Fame Writers Night held at Henry Horton State Park. The songwriters night is part of the Music City Golf Classic, a.k.a. The Beckham Tournament, which raises money for collegiate music scholarships.
Mid-way through the songwriters set to entertain the golf participants and special guests, a major power outage occurred, casting the pavilion into complete darkness. Almost without missing a beat, veteran photographer Alan Mayor turned on his flash" and illuminated the fabulous four and the show continued well into the wee hours. Over $10,000 in scholarship funds was raised during the tournament and songwriters gala.
Rain and cold weather was prevalent throughout the weekend, but the golfers still managed to complete a three-man team, thirty-six holes play on Friday, and an eighteen holes individual round on Saturday. First place winners were awarded Gibson Epiphone AJ100 and DR100 series guitars that were donated by Gibson Guitars specifically for the tournament. Coming in at first place were Cliff Audretch III, Jim Isbell, and John D. Merrit.
The Beckham Tournament is in its 38th year and generates funds for music scholarships in connection with both Belmont Universitys Don Gant Scholarship and Middle Tennessee State Universitys Si Siman Scholarship. These scholarships are given to outstanding students pursuing degrees in Music Business Studies.
