New Magazine for Women Isn’t for Sale, It’s Free; GalZ Magazine Covers an Eclectic Mix of Subject Matter with Wit, Energy and Attitude

GalZ Magazine, a new tabloid-sized monthly publication “about, for and by women,” hits stands April 1. A first run of about 20,000 copies will be distributed throughout metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Funded by advertising, GalZ Magazine is free to readers, the only magazine of its kind in Atlanta.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB / PRWEB) February 9, 2006 -- GalZ Magazine, a new tabloid-sized monthly publication “about, for and by women,” hits stands April 1. A first run of about 20,000 copies will be distributed throughout metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Funded by advertising, GalZ Magazine is free to readers, the only magazine of its kind in Atlanta.

GalZ Magazine is the brainchild of Yvonne Goldman, Publisher and Director of Sales and Marketing. “I want to offer women a publication with sustenance. I’m tired of magazines that are filled with fluff. I want to inspire, empower and give women articles that not only make them feel good and are entertaining but articles that can make a difference in their lives.” GalZ Magazine was born.

Yvonne looked nationwide for writers whose prose showed wit, passion, intelligence and attitude; writers with heart, a confident narrative voice, and enough of an edge to encourage readers to populate the Letters to the Editor page with lively debate.

Any such letters will go to Jill Draper, GalZ Magazine’s editor. “It was love at first sight for me,” according to Jill. Her advertising and marketing background may be unusual for a magazine editor, but her creative, strategic and public relations skills have been more than valuable. Her style is apparent in much of the magazine. A few talented independent writers and experts round out the mix. Articles in the first edition include:

  • Spirit “Karma is everywhere; you may as well learn to make the best of it.”
  • The G Spot “The Problem with Faking It”
  • add one

  • GalZ Gal “Nicole Mitchell, Real-life action, adventure and glamour”
  • The Other Side “A hot man in Atlanta? Odds are he’s married or gay.”

Jill described what comes next, “We’re planning some compelling stories. We’re taking an unusual slant on the subject of adoption and planning another story bringing everyone up to speed on the GTD (Getting Things Done) movement. We’re planning some fun and easy do-it-yourself projects, a look at mommy blogs, the simple lifestyle movement, parenting, finding the sacred in everyday life, meditation and prayer—lots of fertile ground.”

Art Director, Jonathan Lehmann designed the GalZ prototype and is responsible for layout, updating the website, and managing production. He’s also available to create ads for GalZ advertisers as needed.

Jonathan is quite aware that he has sailed into a potentially perilous ocean of estrogen. “It is kind of weird to be the token male. I want to be a company man and all, but my manhood isn’t open for discussion, and the beard is absolutely non-negotiable. Other than that, I’m a card-carrying, sensitive man, in constant contact with my feminine side.”

Has this talk about style piqued your curiosity? For a taste, the lede to the first in a series of “Spirit” series describes what could be a case of bad karma resolving itself.

Late for work, again, Jason burned his tongue on overcooked coffee, hurried to his desk, painfully barked his shin, and noticed that the ax from H.R. was waiting for him with boxes and a week’s severance. He got a speeding ticket going home, the engine light went on, his cell died, but not before his girlfriend dumped him. At home, his cat peed on his best shoes and he developed a cold sore. All before Oprah.

Look for similarly unexpected writing and more when GalZ Magazine hits the stands on April 1.
