"Transparencies" - Barbara Erdman and Izabela Riano, Sculpture and Monoprints, July 28 - August 28 2006

Farrell Fischoff Gallery hosts a 2-person exhibition of new works by Barbara Erdman and Izabela Riano, July 28 - August 28 2006. The exhibition will feature Erdman's acrylic sculptures and Riano's monoprint collages. An opening reception will be held Friday, 28 July 5-7:30PM.

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) July 18, 2006 -- Farrell Fischoff Gallery is pleased to host a two-person exhibition entitled "Transparencies." The title refers to materials used by each artist: Barbara Erdman's Plexiglas sculpture and Izabela Riano's rice paper monoprint collages and by extension the artistic intent.

Barbara Erdman is an accomplished artist who has lived and worked in Santa Fe since 1977. She has participated in many juried exhibitions, has artworks in major collections and has been an important participant in the contemporary art world in Santa Fe.

Erdman's sculpture is molded from translucent and colored Plexiglas. The humor and playfulness of the twisted forms belie their intrinsic strength as dramatic architectonic forces in their environment. Erdman, in addition to being a sculptor, is also a prominent painter, printmaker and photographer. She is particularly known for her collages of monoprints that have been printed on both sides. Erdman contributes one new monoprint collage to the exhibition.

Riano, a young printmaker par-excellence, studied art in her native Poland before coming to the United States in 2003 for a second MFA in experimental printmaking at the University of Florida. She moved to Santa Fe in 2005 for a residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute and later became an adjunct professor at the College of Santa Fe.

Riano's monoprints use forms and colors that are flowing and gloriously subtle. Large areas of rice paper are printed, torn and reassembled into mysterious shapes that simultaneously refer to the natural world and the inner workings of the mind.

Riano will also exhibit a paper sculpture; cut, printed and molded into a natural, stone-like form.
