Suddenly Missing Where To Look?
With the sudden increase in the numbers of people reported missing worldwide coupled with numerous disasters of late, this strategic decision to offer a central database was relatively easy to arrive at. People are looking for ways not only to locate their missing family members, relatives and friends but are also crying out for more resources in their mother tongue allowing them to communicate more effectively. We at MPS and our new affiliate Zomov.org provide a means to achieve both.
Foreign language is a critical component that must be considered.
Public based assistance and services, especially for those who are seeking help in times of need should be afforded at least a few language options at their disposal, and to make the Zomov system truly multilingual, we have also incorporated our email response to quires in one of the ten most widely spoken languages. Over 60 percent of our staff is multilingual being conversationally fluent in at least two or three languages.
No Computer Handy ... No Problem
Within the Zomov system there is also incorporated a telephone contacting system, both regular contact and emergency contact which essentially will advise you that there is a message waiting for you on the system, and in the case of an urgent emergency need to contact someone, one of our telephone staff will rely the urgent message to the person directly.
Learning from “The Experience”
We have taken heed, public awareness to the resources available them is mediocre at best. The Red Cross “missing person’s database” as of September 1, 2005 there were only a half dozen or so people who registered, as compared to the thousands of names that were collected and distributed via RSS and through sites like NOLA.com and the New Orleans craigslist.org. In fact, just finding the Red Cross database for the purpose of registering yourself or someone, was not, and is still is not that simple.
