The Way of Light: Photographs from Sacred Spaces in Asia

Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok will exhibit images from Asia's sacred spaces by American artist, John Goss, from Nov 1 - 30, 2006.

Bangkok (PRWEB) October 9, 2006 -- The Fours Seasons Hotel will host an upcoming exhibition of photographs by American artist, John Goss. Collected on visits to sacred spaces around Asia, his images capture transcendental beauty in Thailand, China, Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Japan.

The Way of Light, opening Nov 1, features large scale images in richly saturated colors bathed in luminous natural light. The photos were shot in intimate contact with Buddhist, Taoist, Hindu, Animist and Islamic traditions. Searching for overlooked beauty, Goss probes beyond the exotic facades and frames his subjects in bold, graphical compositions that capture the essence of each revered site.

“Asia's sacred spaces are designed to slow things down,” explains Goss, “to shift our mental overdrive towards contemplation. They are full of transitions of light, color, scent and sound that sharpen our awareness and renew the sense of wonder we all possessed as children. My aim is to distil that wonder into a single, powerful image.”

This will be the artist’s second showing at Four Seasons, following an exhibition in 2004.

Artist’s Bio:

Raised in Hawaii, and living in Asia for more than a decade, American artist John Goss received his Masters Degree from CalArts and was the recipient of a U.S. National Endowment for the Arts fellowship. His artworks have been widely exhibited around the world. More than two hundred of Goss's photographs were published in the landmark pop culture book, Very Thai (2005, River Books), and in 2006 he published a series of six guidebooks to the Asian region. Now in his 40s, he continues to write, photograph, and search for unexpected beauty on his travels around the region.
