Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) October 17, 2006 -- The Cincinnati Playwright Initiative (CPI) is pleased to present staged readings of two one-act plays by local women on October 24, 2006 at the Aronoff Fifth Third Bank Theatre. "Bedside Manners" written by Lisa Stephenson and directed by Mary Jo Beresford and "Carry On" written by Donna Hoffman will be presented as part of the New Voices Series sponsored by the Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative and the Cincinnati Arts Association.
"Bedside Manners" tells the stories of women who have shared the same room of a New England bed and breakfast. Against the backdrop of changing seasons, each guest portrays a snapshot of life.
"Carry On" is a comedy-drama which serendipitously reunites a divorced couple on a city bus. Communication easily falls into old patterns, until Eddie stops cracking jokes, and Eva responds in a surprising way.
The readings start at 7:30 p.m. October 24th in the Fifth Third Bank Theater, Aronoff Center for the Arts, Seventh and Main streets. Tickets are $6 and may be purchased at the door on the night of the performances or call (513) 621-2787 for the Aronoff Center box office.
The Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative is a grassroots organization of playwrights, directors and actors devoted to bringing plays written by local playwrights to the Cincinnati stage in the form of staged readings. Staged readings are an important step in the development of new plays. The audience is encouraged but not required to join in the collaborative process of bringing a new play to life. Preliminary to full productions staged readings allow playwrights, actors, directors to receive feedback from the audience about the play-in-progress. Plays originally presented in the New Voices Series have been produced in New York and Los Angeles and by the Ensemble Theater of Cincinnati.
CPI is accepting new plays for consideration for the remainder of the 2006-2007 Season. Area playwrights are encouraged to submit a full-length play or three one-acts, along with $15 check payable to CPI. The fee includes a year's membership in CPI and membership privileges. If interested, mail a typed copy of your script along with a $15 check to: CPI, Box 141164, Cincinnati, OH 45250-1164.
