This Veterans Day, www.VetFriends.com -- the largest Web site for reuniting U.S. veterans -- is reaching out and asking Americans to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices and bravery of all who have served our country in times of need by coming together in support at Veterans Day parades and events.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (PRWEB) November 2, 2006 -- In 1921, an unknown World War I American soldier was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, the nation's highest place of honor. The memorial service took place at 11:00 a.m. on Nov. 11, Armistice Day, representing the anniversary of the end of World War I (Nov. 11, 1918). In remembrance of the many men and women who served during World War I, Armistice Day was declared a federal holiday on Nov. 11, 1938. Years later in 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all U.S. veterans. This Veterans Day, www.VetFriends.com, the largest Web site for reuniting U.S. veterans, is reaching out and asking Americans to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices and bravery of all who have served our country in times of need by coming together in support at Veterans Day parades and events.

With this goal in mind, www.VetFriends.com has created a nationwide Veterans Day parade/events directory at www.vetfriends.com/parades. This directory will highlight the locations, dates and times of the holiday's parades and events. Moreover, coordinators can submit and register their events that may not yet be listed on the site. All listings will be posted on www.VetFriends.com for over 150,000 visitors per month to view, and circulated through a member newsletter reaching an additional 80,000 people nationwide. With these efforts, www.VetFriends.com hopes to encourage people across the nation to come together and support U.S. veterans.

Founded by a veteran in support of veterans.
Founded by Marine Corps veteran of Desert Storm, Dale F. Sutcliffe, www.VetFriends.com has reached hundreds of thousands of veterans through its online registry with the goal of reuniting veterans. The idea of the Web site occurred during a conversation with his father-in-law, who had served during the Korean War. When asked whether he would attend a hypothetical reunion with his old Army unit, his father-in-law responded, "I'd be on the next plane to Korea to see those guys." Reflecting on the depth of this reply, Sutcliffe realized those special bonds often withstand the test of time precisely because of the unique and often difficult circumstances under which they were formed. Now, those bonds can be reestablished through modern technology.

Commenting on the significance of Veterans Day, veteran R. Drosche writes, "Veterans Day means so much to me and my entire family. We come from a long line of patriotic people and we recognize the sacrifices we all made and the ultimate sacrifices many made with their lives."

Countdown to Veterans Day with www.VetFriends.com, in support of our U.S. military veterans reuniting, honoring and respecting.
