Politically Inspired Exhibit and Events at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City, IN

The Lubeznik Center is pleased to bring these truly unique opportunities to Northwest Indiana -- from extreme activists, Bernardine Dohrn & Bill Ayers, to 1930's social injustices in the deep-south in "Heavens Fall." Learn about events of the past which frame the events of today. The exhibit provides a visual forum for artists from Chicago, Morocco, New York and Paris, who have created a body of work around very personal responses to political events. The exhibition and politically inspired presentations are intended to engage and challenge the listener/viewer.

"Art that Matters: When Politics Get Personal" provides a visual forum for artists from Chicago, Morocco, New York and Paris, who have created a body of work around very personal responses to political events. Their subjects range from Billy Morrow Jackson's images of four young girls bombed in a Mississippi church in the 60s (pictured), to Lalla Essaydi's silenced women in Morocco in 2000; from Nathan Wolf's 1938 political cartoons about Hitler and God, to Nicole Hollander's "Sylvia" who has a few things to say about Don Rumsfeld. Several works are from the Lubeznik Center's permanent collection. The guest curator is Kay Hartmann, who is on the faculty of the art + design department at Columbia College Chicago.

This exhibition has the generous support of The Framing Station and an Anonymous Friend.
