The FCCLA Teams with Nashville Duo to End School Bullying

Bullying in schools is killing our children, and Michelle Lancaster, home economics teacher and member of the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is doing something about it.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) November 21, 2006 -- Bullying in schools is killing our children, and Michelle Lancaster, home economics teacher and member of the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is doing something about it.

"I think that bullying is the number one contributor to teen suicide. That is why I want my main focus to be on how we need to be a more caring and loving society, and to stop the bullying…pushing, shoving, name calling, ignoring, rumors, isolation, etc."

The FCCLA has been around since 1945, and members have been making a difference in their families, careers and communities by addressing important personal, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education. Today over 225,000 members in nearly 7,000 chapters are active in a network of associations in 50 states as well as in the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. For more info on the FCCLA, please visit http://www.fccla.com/fcclastop/index.html.

Lancaster was in search of a song that could convey a powerful anti-bullying message, and she luckily came upon The Readings, the Nashville twin brothers who have a song perfect for her cause. This lyrical gem is so powerful; the Anti-Bullying Alliance has been using it for their own awareness campaign.

"Wanda's Song," one of the many jewels on The Readings' latest release, is a heart-felt and very touching piece of music that speaks infinite truths about bullying, and how cruel kids can be without even realizing it. Some very potent lyrics convey this theme.

"Why do you hurt me and treat me like you do?
What have I ever done to deserve this from you?
Would you do the things you do
if you were me and I were you?"

The song was not originally intended for campaigns like these, but The Readings welcome it. They feel compelled to become involved. "Bullying in its many forms is an issue that needs to be addressed in this country. We are flattered that these organizations embrace our song, and we feel that the audience will respond positively. We just want to raise awareness for the cause."
