Derrike Cope Concludes 2006 NASCAR Season with Sundance Vacations

Derrike Cope, McGlynn Racing and Sundance Vacations concluded the 2006 NASCAR season on November 19, 2006, in Homestead, Florida.

Wilkes-Barre, PA (PRWeb) December 3, 2006 -- November 19, 2006, marked the end of the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series in Homestead, Florida. Derrike Cope and the #74 Sundance Vacations Dodge failed to qualify for the Ford 400 due to car trouble. Cope says, "We certainly did not end [the season] the way we had hoped. We were unable to find the necessary speed in the Sundance Vacations Dodger Charger to qualify for the race." He continues, "This week, we went with a more conventional set up which proved to not be capable of matching the competition with the coil bind chassis combination. We could have had a better lap in qualifying, I believe, but we needed quite a bit of speed to make the race so I elected to free the car up and make a number of changes in hopes of getting the lap I needed. However the car was just too loose and it turned sideways on me on the first lap in turn three, which ended our bid. There were a lot of teams trying to make the race, which provided a look at what next year may bring."

Cope posted two finished this past season. The #74 Sundance Vacations Dodge finished 37th in the Neighborhood Excellence 400 in Dover, Delaware, and 34th in the GFS Marketplace 400 in Brooklyn, Michigan. In addition, Cope competed in a number of Busch Series races in which he posted another two finishes.

Derrike Cope, McGlynn Racing and Sundance Vacations will now begin looking at their options to further the team's productivity for next year. Cope adds, "I want to thank all of the crew for their hard work and dedication. They are all giving their time each week voluntarily, with the exception of [a few]. We accomplished a great deal more than people expected us to, although the latter portion of the year was a bit disappointing. For such a small team I personally am pleased with what we were able to make happen [in 2006]."

The 2007 race season will bring along another year of hope for McGlynn Racing and Sundance Vacations. Derrike Cope concludes, "I am already looking forward to the start of the 2007 NASCAR season!"

Testing will begin at Daytona International Speedway in January. The first race of the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup season will take place on February 10th with the Budweiser Shootout, also in Daytona.
