Up and Coming Filmmaker Wins Golden Halo Award For Best Short Film of 2006
Southern California Motion Picture Council President, Chairman of the Board, and Actor, Randal Malone announced that the 2006 Golden Halo Award for Best Short Film of the Year has been awarded to Los Angeles writer/director/producer Ford Austin for his film: "Tiny Dancer". The award was presented on Friday December 1st, 2006 in the Empire Ballroom of the world famous Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City, California by the council's Film Advisory Chairman, legendary Academy Award winning Actress, Margaret O'Brien. Miss O'Brien received the Academy Award for her beautiful portrayal of "Tootie" opposite Judy Garland in the 1944 classic "Meet Me In St. Louis."

The Southern California Motion Picture Council is a non-profit organization founded in 1936 to promote the best in motion pictures. To this end, the Council encourages production of family oriented films and television programs; promotes civic-minded, educational and cultural programs of exceptional merit and presents awards for the best in movies, television, stage plays and the performing arts. Only the "Best of the Best" in movies and television, and stars whose performances deserve special recognition for outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry, are selected. Past honorees include: Jean Harlow, Bette Davis, and Lucille Ball.
Ford Austin's outstanding film, "Tiny Dancer", stars talented newcomer, Sarah Marson as an aging ballerina who unintentionally helps street punks and herself find an appreciation for the beauty of life through dance. When he heard about the award, Ford Austin said, "The Southern California Motion Picture Council recognizing us for our passionate work of art, Tiny Dancer, is mind-blowing. We are all so thrilled and overwhelmed for this honor and on behalf of the cast and crew, we thank you for taking the time to inspire and enable us to keep making films and television in Southern California."
The film's star, Actor/Dancer Sarah Marson, currently lives in Sherman Oaks, California and this film marks her first appearance on the big screen. In preparation for her role, Sarah rehearsed several times a week with her teacher, former Balanchine dancer Zippora Karz who also choreographed the dance scenes for the film. Within just two weeks, the entire dance was choreographed and ready for the camera. The dance was shot in two separate locations: Descanso Gardens and the Lanternman Auditorium, both located in the City of La Canada Flintridge. One of the film's producers said, "Fleaco Pix, LLC, originally made Tiny Dancer for the Live-Action Short Category of the Academy Awards."
Director/Writer Ford Austin is a native of Oklahoma City who has been living in Toluca Lake, California for the past 2 years. His production company Fleaco Pix, LLC, is an independent company which previously produced an award winning comedy series for Channel 101 about the Wright Brothers called "The Wright Stuff", which Austin co-directed, wrote and starred in. As an actor, Ford has appeared on TV shows and films that include Another World, Days of Our Lives, Pearl Harbor, and Austin, Texas's 2003 SXSW Film Fest Special Jury Award winner "Family Tree" starring Talia Shire and directed by "Shrek" and "Sharktale" director, Vicky Jenson. Ford says, "Watching Vicky work on the set inspired me to direct and write more so that I can make bigger and better movies, and now I am one baby-step closer to that goal."
