Lukens Group 'Rolls Out' First Annual Award

Lukens Group (Graystone Society) bestows first annual Rebecca Lukens Award to longtime Coatesville volunteer.

Coatesville, PA (PRWEB) December 29, 2006 -- The Graystone Society of Coatesville announces the first annual Rebecca Lukens Award. This award has been established by the Graystone Society to honor individuals who exhibit the qualities of Rebecca Lukens. The inaugural recipient of the award is long time Graystone Society volunteer, Mary R. Sullivan. The award will be presented at Graystone Mansion during the celebration of Rebecca Lukens' 213th birthday on January 11, 2007.

"We've always felt that there should be something to commemorate the gifts which Rebecca bestowed on all who followed her," says Scott G. Huston, Graystone President. "Finally, we are able to celebrate her life's teachings with something tangible." The actual award, which will be permanently housed at The Lukens National Historic District, is mounted to a scale replica of the original rolling mill that Rebecca operated in the early 1800's. A commemorative etching with recipients' names is affixed to it.

The Graystone Society, which was created in 1984 to help preserve the city's historic architecture, also assists with municipal improvement and economic development through preservation. The Graystone Society is named for the Graystone Mansion, part of The Lukens National Historic District, which is the future home to The National Iron and Steel Heritage Museum. This museum will focus on the people, places, products and processes that made The Lukens Mill outstanding in the industry in her day.

Mary R. Sullivan is noted for her 22 years of volunteer service to Graystone. At 85 years young, while a devotee of history, she still believes in the power of technology. "I can be walking between Graystone (Mansion) and Terracina, call a volunteer on my cell, have them e-mail a document to my computer, and print it out when I get there."

The event will be held at Graystone Mansion, 53 S. 1st Avenue in Coatesville, PA on Jan. 11, 2007, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A $10 donation is kindly requested and reservations are suggested. This event is also made possible through the kindness of the following sponsors: the Chester County Conference and Visitor's Bureau, GK Productions, PECO Energy and Scott G. Huston.
