Celebrating Women's Month with an Italian Twist

A two-day program in Bloomfield (NJ) with book signing, presentations, music, visual art and dance.

Bloomfield, NJ (PRWEB) March 16, 2006 -- To celebrate March as Women’s Month, The Center for Italian & Italian-American Culture, Inc. presents its signature program “Creative Perspectives” to be held on Sunday, Mach 26, 2006 from 11 Am to 4 PM and Monday, March 27, 2006 at 6 PM – Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center, 240 Belleville Avenue, Bloomfield NJ.

Join The Center in this joyous and informative gathering while learning more about your heritage. The events scheduled on both days are fun and educational at the same time, designed with a woman’s view in mind, but open to families and men too.

On the first day, attendees will learn the ultimate table display for their parties, with Terry DeToli (Parties with Panache). They will then discover that one of the best places to eat in New Jersey happens to be at a convent. Simple, yet savory food is alive and well in Maria Tisdall's “Convent Cook”, a collection of 90-plus easy recipes that are instant family pleasers. Tisdall is a professional cook who found an appreciative audience for her talents among the Benedictine sisters of New Jersey's Saint Walburga monastery. As convent chef, Tisdall introduced the sisters to gastronomic delights such as couscous, balsamic vinegar, and other "modern" ingredients. The book abounds with many “heavenly” recipes everyone can love.

From Heaven to Earth, dancer Alessandra Belloni will take the guests into a fiery “percussive journey” through the South of Italy. She will explore the power of music therapy through songs, dance and rhythm, magic rituals, tarantellas, healing chants, lullabies, love ballads, work chants and protest song. The performance ends with the authentic Pizzica Tarantata, the healing trance dance from Puglia used as an exorcism to cure the mythical bite of the tarantula, a mental disorder that afflicted mainly women, and which goes back to the ancient Greek rites of Dionysus. Alessandra Belloni is unique in her knowledge of the Southern Italian tambourine style together with the singing and the dancing. She is also the first one to design a line of Southern Italian Signature Series tambourines made by REMO.

On Monday, an exciting and promising segment of the program will be the book signing and presentation of What Men Don't Want You To Know, Revealed by a Man!” by Stefano Spadoni. The book is a manual for women willing to plan a successful relationship with men in love and life. The book reveals and decodes "secret," innate male tactics, that can be equated with marketing strategies. The author also debunks common perceptions about men, women and sexual dynamics, reinforced in today's culture. He also teaches the reader to look at these elements in a new, radical light.

Preceding the book signing will be:” Women 2 Women”, a presentation by Silk Purse and Women’s Executive Networking, LLC

On both days, the walls of the mansion will be decorated by the artwork (also for sale) of visual artists Sherry Dell’Aria McGrath and Hilda Portella Ondovchak.

The musical entertainment on Sunday is provided by pianist Kristen Valente

Admission fee is $10 for Members and $15 for Non-Members and includes refreshments on both days. No discount is available for attending only one event. In addition to the cultural programs, The Center offers a directory of individuals interested in networking and promoting their business through our 2006 events. The cost to participate in the directory is only $25 (business size display).

The Center is a non-profit and non-partisan organization dedicated to the preservation of the Italian culture and heritage. For additional information and reservation, please contact Daniela Puglielli or Angela Meola at (973) 571 1995 or visit www.ciiac.org.
