Manuel Carmo in New York at the Angel Orensanz Foundation
Manuel Carmo brings to New York Manifesta 24, his first exhibition of a mature work and a personal concept of the art work.
(PRWEB) March 21, 2006 -- With his Manifesto 24, Manuel Carmo (Lisbon, Portugal, 1958) brings to New York his first exhibition of a mature work and a personal concept of the art work. Manuel Carmo is a remarkable contemporary artist with a strong impact in Portugal, the country he was born in and where he was educated. His background includes law, international relations and arts management; and art education. He carries a strong humanistic content in his work, with a creative edge that involves the use of methods and tools derived from the phenomenological analysis.
This exhibition consists of written word, 24 acrylic paintings, two large sculpture canvasses and two videos. The paintings are exhibited over two sculptures of gigantic watches. Then they reappear hung on the walls of two tunnels, a white one and a black one, with video projections. The text of the Manifesto is displayed on the floor, allowing the visitors to step over it and read it.
The Angel Orensanz Foundation lends perfectly a stark contrast and at the same time a context of time and space that set Manuel Carmo’s art work into a time and space well related by history and design to the Hegelian notions of time perception and historical evolution.
The opening reception will be held on March 23, 2005 from 7 to 9 PM.
This show comes accompanied by a catalogue on the Manifest 24, reproducing the text, the sculptures, the paintings and the videos.
The exhibition opens on March 23rd, and lasts until April 23rd. 2006. Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 6 PM. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
