Sigmund Freud - Dead or Alive? Exhibition by Artist Jane McAdam Freud, Daughter of Lucian Freud, Celebrates 150 Years Since the Birth of her Great Grandfather

Established and collected sculptor since 1981, Jane McAdam Freud, is currently artist-in-residence at the Freud Museum, London. This will culminate in an exhibition of her great-grandfather Sigmund Freud's collected sculpture alongside her own created works.

(PRWEB) March 29, 2006 -- Jane McAdam Freud, the daughter of painter Lucian Freud, is currently artist in residence at the Freud Museum in Hampstead, London. 2006 is a significant year for the Freud Museum as it celebrates 150 years since the birth of her great-grandfather Sigmund Freud who lived there for the last year of his life. In celebration of this occasion, Jane, sculptor and artist, is preparing a unique exhibition at the Museum.

Jane is a Fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculptors who trained at the Royal College of Art, London and was awarded the British Art Medal Scholarship in Rome. Her work is represented in many international and national public collections including the British Museum, National Gallery Archives and is on permanent display at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Jane McAdam Freud’s exhibition is aptly titled "Relative Relations" and examines the complex concept "What is a relationship"? During her residency at the Freud Museum she has taken a detailed look at the permanent collection of antiquities of her great-grandfather.

Sigmund’s collection includes Egyptian, Greek and Roman pieces. These antiquities were inspirational to Sigmund Freud who often utilised classical mythology to illustrate his ideas. One famous example is the Oedipus complex and the Egyptian sphinx.

Jane McAdam Freud will be showing pairings of 'collected and created' objects. The collected objects have been selected from the 2000 which Sigmund acquired over his lifetime. The created objects have been selected from Jane's new works and those made over her lifetime. The two displayed side by side resonate with connections. The viewer is left wondering –what combination of forces brings these works together. Genetics? Aesthetics? The unconscious? It’s up to you to decide.

The exhibition “Relative Relations” by Jane McAdam Freud will show at the Freud Museum, 20 Maresfield Gardens, London NW3 from 13 September -22 October 2006.
