Italian American Museum Hosts 2006 Gala and Award Ceremony

Metropolitan Opera's Joseph Volpe, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn and Smith Barney's Executive Vice President Toni J. Elliott will be honored at the annual Italian American Museum Gala.

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 16, 2006 -- Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Ph.D., D.D., Bishop of Brooklyn, will be honored at the fifth annual fundraising gala for the Italian American Museum April 28 at Cipriani Wall Street.

Joseph Volpe, General Manager of the Metropolitan Opera, set to retire this summer, and Toni J. Elliott, Executive Vice President, Smith Barney, will also be recognized for their contributions to the Italian American community.

“We take pride in honoring the accomplishments of Italian Americans who are icons in their respective fields,” said Dr. Joseph V. Scelsa, president of the Italian American Museum. “Their dedication and passion exemplifies the richness and diversity of the Italian American experience.”

The black-tie event commences with a cocktail reception at 7:00 p.m., with dinner and dancing beginning at 8:00 p.m. Lidia Bastianich, the Celebrity Chef, who chose the menu will attend the gala. Singer Giada Valenti and the Panorama orchestra will entertain, America’s Fourth Tenor, Michael Amante will perform and there will be a special performance by Maestro Vincent La Selva and members of the New York Grand Opera Company. Temporarily housed at 28 West 44th St., the Italian American Museum is dedicated to exploring the rich cultural heritage of Italy and Italian Americans by presenting the individual and collective struggles and achievements of Italians and their heirs to the American way of life. The institution, which has received widespread support from prominent Italian Americans, received its provisional charter from the New York State Board of Regents in June 2001.
