National Speed Sport News Power Rankings, April 26 issue
Each week, National Speed Sport News, America’s weekly motorsports authority for over 70 years, ranks the best drivers from all forms of motorsports. The April 26 issue has the top three spots unchanged from last week: Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Bourdais and Melanie Troxel.
Harrisburg, NC (PRWEB) April 25, 2006 -- Fernando Alonso from Formula 1 remained at the top of the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings despite a narrow loss this past weekend. In the weekly paper’s rankings, Sebastien Bourdais from Champ Car and Melanie Troxel from NHRA Top Fuel followed at second and third. Each week the paper at http://www.NationalSpeedSportNews.com ranks the Top 10 drivers from all forms of motorsports based on points standings and their performance at the track.
Helio Castroneves from IRL, previously unranked, jumped into the fourth spot. NASCAR’s Tony Stewart moved up two positions to fifth. Donny Schatz and Dave Steele each fell from the top 10.
1). Fernando Alonso, Formula 1. Alonso added his second runner-up finish along with two victories this season.
2). Sebastien Bourdais, Champ Car World Series. Bourdais is one for one this season and awaits the second race of the season at Houston in May.
3). Melanie Troxel, NHRA Top Fuel. Troxel looks to make it to the final round for the sixth time in six races Sunday at Bristol, Tennessee.
4). Helio Castroneves, Indy Racing League. Castroneves won his second-straight IRL race, and he’s finished in the top two in all three races this season.
5). Ron Capps, NHRA Funny Car. Capps returns to action this weekend at Bristol Dragway in Tennessee.
6). Tony Stewart, NASCAR Nextel Cup. Stewart continued to rack up consistent finishes, taking second spot at Phoenix Int’l Raceway.
7). Dan Wheldon, Indy Racing League. The defending IRL champion finished second to Helio Castroneves at Japan’s Twin Ring Motegi.
8). Jimmie Johnson, NASCAR Nextel Cup. Despite a solid seventh-place finish at Phoenix, Johnson dropped to second in Nextel Cup points.
9). Kevin Harvick, NASCAR Nextel Cup. Harvick swept the NASCAR weekend at Phoenix and widened his lead in the Busch Series standings.
10). Steve Kinser, National Sprint Tour. Kinser finished second to teammate Tim Kaeding at Hutchinson (Kansas) Raceway Park.
Honorable mention: With a big victory, late-model racer Scott Bloomquist had a big weekend, and Indiana’s Jon Stanbrough has had the hot hand early in non-winged sprint-car action.
