Conejo Valley Days (CVD) will celebrate its 50th anniversary, May 3 through May 7 at Conejo Creek Park South in Thousand Oaks (23 Freeway at the Janss Road exit). "CVD Cheers for Fifty Years" is this year's theme. CVD is the annual celebration of the valley's country roots.

Thousand Oaks, Calif. (PRWEB) April 29, 2006 -- Conejo Valley Days (CVD) will celebrate its 50th anniversary, May 3 through May 7 at Conejo Creek Park South in Thousand Oaks (23 Freeway at the Janss Road exit). "CVD Cheers for Fifty Years" is this year's theme. CVD is the annual celebration of the valley's country roots.

The festival will be filled with live entertainment, games, fresh foods including an authentic western pit barbecue, petting zoo and an assortment of carnival rides for all ages. The five-day event will feature a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association-sanctioned rodeo. Rodeo times are: Saturday, May 6, 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 7, 1:30 p.m. The "CVD Marketplace," right off the midway, will contain over 100 booths filled with crafts, western gear, sweets and product demonstrations and displays.

On Wednesday, May 3, the first annual ConejoX Motocross Invitational will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the rodeo arena. The freestyle motocross competition will feature riders from the X-Games and Dew Circuit including "Cowboy" Kenny Bartram (winner of the ‘05 Dew Tour), Kyle Loza and Brian Dowdy. A concert by the After Midnight Project will follow. Admission to both Conejo Valley Days and to ConejoX is $18 ($6 fair admission, $12 competition wristband). A portion of the proceeds benefits AYSO. The event is sponsored by the United States Army. Tickets maybe purchased at the fair or at The Racers Edge in Simi Valley, Michael's Bicycles in Newbury Park, High Octane Powersports in Thousand Oaks or Salzers Records in Ventura.

Headlining this year's main stage on Saturday, May 6 at 8:30 p.m. is the Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. The Starship's hits include "Jane," “No Way Out," “We Built This City”, “Sara”, and the Oscar nominated “Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now." Other hits include “Find Your Way Back," “Stranger," “Layin It On The Line" and “It's Not Over Til It's Over,” which became Major League Baseball's theme in 1987.

"Conejo Valley Days has been part of the community for 50 years," says May Ann Keeler, 2006 CVD general chair. "The Conejo Valley is now a fast-paced community, but once a year, Conejo Valley Days reminds us that we still have a wonderful small town spirit."

Other activities during CVD include the Badgeroo contest on May 3 at 6:00 p.m. A new badge is created every year featuring the CVD theme. Contestants pit their badge collections against those of others, many whom have been collecting badges since the tradition began in 1964.

CVD hours are Wednesday and Thursday, May 3 and 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday, May 5, 5:00 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, May 6, noon to midnight and Sunday, May 7, noon to 8:00 p.m. General admission is $6 for adults, $5 for students/seniors, $3 for children ages six through 12. Children under age six are free. April 28 and 29 are family fun nights. On these nights, for $17 plus admission, fair-goers have unlimited use of rides. All military service people who show their identification will get in free.

Conejo Valley Days is made up of more than 20 nonprofit organizations and their thousands of volunteers. They work behind the scenes, beginning up to six months in advance. They sponsor offsite CVD events including the Kick-Off Picnic & Classic Car Show (Conejo Valley Rotary Club), the Chili Cook-Off (Rotary Club of Thousand Oaks) and the Conejo Valley Days Parade (Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks). Nonprofit groups staff the game and food booths along the CVD midway during the five-day festival--all raising money to help their organizations. "Fair goers should make sure they support these groups," says Keeler. "For some, CVD is their biggest fundraiser of the year."

An ATM will be on site throughout the event. Parking will be available at the front entrance of CVD and across Janss Road in the Thousand Oaks Library/Teen Center/Goebel Center parking lots. Free trams and buses will make continual roundtrips from the parking lots to the fairgrounds.
