Penske as CEO of Champ Car/IRL Merger?

Readers of National Speed Sport News, America’s weekly motorsports authority for over 70 years, selected Roger Penske in an online poll as the top candidate to run Champ Car and the Indy Racing League if they were to merge.

Harrisburg, NC (PRWEB) April 28, 2006 -- Roger Penske as CEO after a merger of Champ Car and Indy Racing League? That’s the leading choice of readers in a current online poll at http://www.NationalSpeedSportNews.com. Readers of the motorsports newsweekly selected Penske as the best candidate to lead a hypothetical merger of the two sanctioning bodies over notable racing personalities H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler, Brian France, Tony George, and Kevin Kalkhoven.

More than a third of the publication’s readers picked Penske as the answer to the question, “Who should run IRL and Champ Car after a merger?” Penske, an icon in motorsports, leads other candidates by a significant margin. Wheeler, a well-known NASCAR track promoter and operator, is in second place with approximately a quarter of the vote.

George, a founder of the IRL, is currently listed as third place.

National Speed Sport News has recently reported on discussions between IRL’s George and Champ Car’s Kalkhoven. No merger has been announced, and in mid-April Kalkhoven tersely told the paper, “We're still talking, and that's all I can say. There are definitely people out there who are trying to stop it from happening.”

The newsweekly conducts online polls with its readers each week. To participate in the current online poll, visit http://www.NationalSpeedSportNews.com and cast your vote.
