SMASH! Comics New Sponsor of the Wright Race Team
Open Book Press comic book imprint SMASH! Comics has announced that they will be sponsoring the #1 car of Dan Wright, of Tara area, who is also the reigning Pro Stock Champion of Steelback Sauble Speedway; located in Sauble Beach, Ontario.
Kincardine, ON (PRWEB) May 9, 2006 -- Open Book Press comic book imprint SMASH! Comics has announced that they will be sponsoring the #1 car of Dan Wright, of Tara area, who is also the reigning Pro Stock Champion of Steelback Sauble Speedway; located in Sauble Beach, Ontario.
The new comics publisher has sponsored the #1 car for an undisclosed amount, in return the SMASH! Comics logo will appear on the trunk of the car and the website address of www.smashcomics.ca will appear on the back spoiler. Although comic books are a new format to parent company Open Book Press the SMASH! Comics line has actually existed for over five years, been carried by multiple publishers, and built up a loyal fan base in that time.
The line of comics is being re-launched in a new format this year by Open Book Press, who bought the comics imprint in late 2004. The publishers are in the midst of a new promotional campaign using non-traditional advertising outlets in order to reach fans, and they feel that the logo being displayed on the #1 Limited Late Model Car is a good place to reach new fans.
Racecar driver Dan Wright has been racing at the Sauble track for over 13 years. Dan started in the street stock league and quickly rose through the ranks, moving into Pro Stock and eventually dominating, winning several championships in recent years.
In early 2005 Wright was severely injured in a snow mobile accident. After surgery and several weeks in intensive care Wright spent months recuperating at home, accepting help from friends and family to keep his engine building business (The Wright Automotive Machine Shop) based in Owen Sound running. Many speculated that this could in fact be the end of Wright’s racing career.
Against the face of adversity Wright not only returned to racing but successfully defended his Pro Stock championship, winning the 2005 championship in points and in the final feature race of 2005. Wright not only achieved that amazing return, but also finished off his year by marrying his fiancé after race season finished. The couple is now expecting their first child to arrive right around the same time as the new race season begins in May 2006.
2005 may have been Wright’s final Pro Stock Championship, but certainly not his final year of racing. For the 2006 season this veteran stock car driver has decided to move up a league, and will now be racing in Sauble Speedway’s Limited Late Model league, a longtime dream for the Allenford, Ontario native.
