National Speed Sport News Power Rankings
Each week, National Speed Sport News, America’s weekly motorsports authority for over 70 years, ranks the best drivers from all forms of motorsports. The latest issue has the top three spots going to Sebastien Bourdais, Helio Castroneves, and Tony Stewart.
Harrisburg, NC (PRWEB) May 15, 2006 -- Sebastien Bourdais from Champ Car is at the top of the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings. In the weekly paper’s rankings, Helio Castroneves from the Indy Racing League and Tony Stewart from NASCAR round out the rankings at second and third. Each week the paper at http://www.NationalSpeedSportNews.com ranks the Top 10 drivers from all forms of motorsports based on points standings and their performance at the track.
Fernando Alonso fell off his lofty perch atop the standings despite finishing second in Germany. Steve Kinser dropped from the rankings.
1). Sebastien Bourdais, Champ Car. After a month off, Bourdais got back on the track this weekend at the Grand Prix of Houston, earning his second win of the year.
2). Helio Castroneves, Indy Racing League. Castroneves began his run for a third Indy 500 title with rain-shortened practice sessions this past week.
3). Tony Stewart, NASCAR Nextel Cup. Stewart continued his climb toward the top of the standings with a sixth-place finish at Richmond, Virginia and 12th at Darlington.
4). Melanie Troxel, NHRA Top Fuel. Troxel made it to the final round for the sixth time in seven races, losing to Doug Kalitta last Sunday in Atlanta
5). Fernando Alonso, Formula 1. Alonso finished second to Michael Schumacher for the second-straight race, following that with a victory in his homeland Spain.
6). Jimmy Johnson, NASCAR Nextel Cup. A late charge helped Johnson salvage a12th-place finish from what looked to be a lot worse at Richmond, and followed with fourth at Darlington, and leads the points.
7). Dan Wheldon, Indy Racing League. Wheldon begins the defense of his Indianapolis 500 triumph in rain-soaked Indianapolis.
8). Kevin Harvick, NASCAR Nextel Cup; Busch. Harvick won for the fourth time in five NASCAR Busch Series races and finished strong at Richmond with a disappointing 37th at Darlington.
9). Ron Capps, NHRA Funny Car. Capps punched teammate Whit Bazemore and lost in the first round Sunday at Atlanta Dragway.
10). Dannie Lasoski, National Sprint Tour. Lasoski won three races in four starts over the weekend while racing with four different organizations.
Honorable mention: Michael Schumacher won his second-consecutive Formula 1 race, while Doug Kalitta made it two straight in the NHRA Top Fuel division.
