Houston Mayor Bill White Proclaims March 23, 2006, Ted Ellis Day
Nationally acclaimed artist, Ted Ellis was recognized during the public session of the City Council of Houston, Texas for his outstanding contributions to the world of art.
Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 26, 2006 -- Nationally acclaimed artist, Ted Ellis was recognized during the public session of the City Council of Houston, Texas for his outstanding contributions to the world of art. The Mayor of Houston, Bill White, proclaimed ‘May 23, 2006’ as ‘Ted Ellis Day’. Ellis received a formal proclamation from the Mayor, with the members of the City Council in attendance. The event marked the launch of an exhibit of paintings by Ellis in City Hall sponsored by Council Member Sue Lovell. The themed exhibit, titled ‘Blues in the Bayou City’, will run for three months from May until the beginning of August 2006. Each Council Member received a 2006 Calendar of artwork by Ted Ellis and a print of his work.
The proclamation read as follows “An environmental chemist, turned professional artist over 15 years ago, Ted Ellis is one of the leading African-American contemporary artists capturing American culture and heritage. Referring to himself as a creative historian, Ted Ellis states that he was put here to record history and his sole purpose has always been to educate through art. Extremely dedicated to his craft, Ted Ellis breathes life into the rural scenes that follow soulful and familiar images through poignant settings, drawing from his childhood impressions of his native city, New Orleans. His acclaimed series, Celebrating our Culture and Heritage, encompasses the diversity and cultural similarities of all Americans.”
Ellis will be launching several themed exhibits in Houston and Dallas, Texas that will run concurrently with the Houston City Hall exhibit during the months of June and July 2006.

Ellis is currently working on a captivating new series of paintings, appropriately titled “Healing, Hope and Rebirth”, depicting the needed process of healing, the embrace of hope, and the deeply innate goal of rebirth for Hurricane Katrina survivors. Expressing grave concern for the large numbers of people still displaced without housing, jobs, and medical care, Ellis is determined to make this series one of the catalysts that encourages the nation to continue supporting the ongoing relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina survivors.
