BABE Rally Arrives in New Orleans with a Bang

The inaugural BABE Rally has been a great success and arrives in New Orleans. Teams have taken $250 over 1500 miles in 4 days to complete the first ever American Banger Rally.

(PRWEB) June 2, 2006 -- The groundbreaking BABE Rally(1) (Big Apple to Big Easy) finished in New Orleans, bringing with it 30 banged up old cars and over 70 enthusiastic participants, who were exhausted, but had the party of their lives!

Organised by StreetSafari(2), the BABE Rally brings the British concept of ‘banger rallying’ to the US. Participants can only use vehicles purchased for less than $250. They not only have to drive from New York to New Orleans in just 4 days, but they also have to undertake a series of daily challenges, earning points for each challenge.

The BABE Rally has been an overwhelming success over the last 4 days. We have brought our party to New Orleans, and have had a fantastic and friendly reception. In return, we hope that our presence has helped the local economy here in New Orleans to get back on its feet.
The rally arrived in New Orleans to a honk of horns and a champagne reception at the Pat O'Briens bar on Bourbon Street, where the winners were announced, with the overall winners receiving $1500.

The prizes are awarded as follows:

1st prize (most points accrued on rally):
Don Elliot and Alan Barrow from Georgia

2nd prize
Jen Chan and Scott Davis from California

3rd prizes
Andy Maass from Colorda

The prize for the Biggest Pile of Rubbish went to a team called “2 Men and a Beater” piloted by Adam Deane and Steven Giannitti of Connecticut with their awful Honda Accord.

Justin Clements of Streetsafari, the organiser of the rally, said, “The BABE Rally has been an overwhelming success over the last 4 days. We have brought our party to New Orleans, and have had a fantastic and friendly reception. In return, we hope that our presence has helped the local economy here in New Orleans to get back on its feet.”

Don and Alan, the overall winners of the BABE rally added, “We are delighted to be the winners of the inaugural BABE Rally. Its been a lot of fun, great comaradery between the teams, and have driven through some great American scenery. We are both looking forward to next year already!”

Notes to editors:

1. The BABE Rally (Big Apple to Big Easy) left New York for Harrisonburg, VA on Thursday May 24. Day 2 took the participants to Newport, TN and it was then on to Fort Payne, AL via the famous Deals Gap on Day 3. The final leg saw participants arriving in New Orleans, LA on the 4th day. The BABE Rally will take place again in 2007. For more information please see www.baberally.com

2. StreetSafari LLC is the original European banger-rallying company. The original event, the infamous and highly successful Staples2Naples Rally (which took teams from Staples Corner in London to Naples in Italy) first took place in 2003 and has taken place every September since. Due to overwhelming demand, further rallies have been introduced over the years including Home2Rome, CzechWrecks and now BABE, with even more adventurous rallies planned for next year.
