Great Lessons From the Past Can Also Serve as a Basis of Great Pride -- Despite the Supreme Court Americans Should Recognize Their Dependence on God This Independence Day
Charles Lyons, Ph.D. sees a critical need, more than ever before for Americans to reflect and give thanks for their God and godly heritage. “Despite significant rulings of the US Supreme Court to curtail religious freedoms and in the process heritage, this 4th of July should be a time of celebration and thanksgiving for our godly leaders of the past and those few we find today,” according to Lyons.
Houston, TX (PRWEB) July 2, 2006 – America has been blessed with numerous natural resources. One of the greatest resources we have are our citizens. Dr. Charles Lyons, writer and counselor, recently stated that: “America’s heritage of godly men and women, who tirelessly committed their lives and families cannot and should not be forgotten. The spiritual testimony of these people, found in their complete faith in the living God are frequently patronized and dismissed as irrelevant in an ongoing desire to make America spiritually neutral.”
Speaking to a culturally diverse meeting in Houston, Texas, Friday afternoon, Dr. Lyons went on to explain that America has always been a melting pot of cultures. He told the crowd, “…blending divergent cultures is not a justification to shame and dismiss the core beliefs of the Christian faith shared by America’s founding fathers and many citizens today.”
From their examples we have not only seen the cost of freedom in lives and wealth, we have seen that men and women of character pay the price willingly. Dr. Lyons stated that, “…throughout our history godly leaders have stepped up to the challenge to lead and demonstrate Christian character that can serve as both an inspiration and source of pride for all Americans. As we are meeting here today, around the world the American soldier is demonstrating character and courage that deserves are recognition.”
Dr. Lyons expressed, “…that contemporary politicians suffer when they are forced to address an outdoor crowd without the benefit of air-conditioning. They understand hardship when they ask federal employees and soldiers to make due with limited or no pay raises while they vote for themselves exorbitant benefit packages. They rely on God when they gather together before the press core in a church after a national disaster and fail to legislate God’s appropriateness in the classroom when they right new laws.”
As a counselor Dr. Lyons has spent time trying to help people who seem to be floating in an emotional quagmire where there are no absolutes. He went on to explain that although they seem to know the truth of Christian values, they are hesitant to rely on them. This seems to stem from a perpetual attack and ridicule on all things Christian, according to Dr. Lyons.
“When our secular historians attempt to remove the Christian faith from our historical statesmen, when politicians ridicule via the network sound bite anything and anyone who displays godly virtue and the highest court of our land tries to legislate secular humanism as truth, we need fewer fireworks this fourth of July, we need a nation on its knees in prayer.” Dr. Lyons made a concerted effort to encourage people to appeal to God for forgiveness for our national shame, to return to the inerrancy of God’s Word the Bible and to faithfully demand accountability in our courts, in our legislatures and in our pulpits.
Dr. Lyons is the author of two books, “Daniel a Commentary of Prophecy,” and “Losing Your Head Without Losing Your Mind!” The second book chronicles the life of John the Baptist, another historical Bible character who stood up boldly when wrong was portrayed as right. Dr. Lyons holds degrees in both religion and psychology and has previously worked in law enforcement, the Federal Government and most recently on staff at one of the largest churches in America, based in Houston, Texas.
