Youth Dance Company Prepares To Tour In Canada

During the month of July, members of the Philadelphia based, contemporary youth dance company, Music & Motion, will be touring the cities of Toronto and Montreal, Canada as part of an international cultural exchange program.

(PRWEB) July 10, 2006 -- In July of 2006, under an intercultural grant, Music & Motion will be performing on tour in Canada. Cities to be visited include Toronto and Montreal. According to senior dancer Andrea Piovane (Bensalem, PA), “The aim of this tour is the promotion of international understanding and peace through exposure to different cultures.” Music & Motion Dance believes that the performing arts - music, dance, and theater are the key to such exchange and are truly the universal language of humanity and expression.

As a result of their performance last year at the National Constitution Center, as part of the 2005 Philly Fringe, Music & Motion was selected from amongst thirty modern dance companies to be granted for this unique summer program. They were the only youth dance company considered.

The dance company will be touring Canada with their new work, “To A Different Beat”, which explores a cultural fusion of expressive rhythm and dance set to modern global music. Blending individual creativity, these dancers entice with their own rhythms of the heart, intense imagery, boldness and pure energy. Over a dozen new dance pieces were created for this program. Dance styles ranging from classical ballet to more eclectic mixtures of modern, lyrical, hip-hop and acro have been incorporated, the choreography having been the result of group collaboration by the entire company.

For Noelle Tolbert (Harleysville, PA), who has been with the company for the past three years, the upcoming tour is a dream come true. “ We are all very excited about this opportunity as well as anxious to get going. It may only be for ten days but the memories of what we have accomplished will be with us for a lifetime”.

Performance highlights will include the Children's Garden & Exploring Toronto Programs, Nathan Phillips Square at Toronto City Hall, Toronto’s AFC Arts Adventure Camp, Bibliothèque des jeunes de Montréal, and Montreal’s famous Atwater Market.

Music & Motion Dance Productions is a non-profit corporation, which is both owned and operated by teens with mentoring from outside corporations and individuals. It is a group of pre-professional dancers ages fifteen thru nineteen, who have expressed an interest in pursuing dance and the performing arts. Under the artistic direction of Steven Weisz, this group’s mission has been to empower young people through dance and creative collaboration in the performing arts, building self-esteem and inspiring self-expression and community action.

To that end, Music & Motion performs locally and in surrounding communities throughout the year, as well as performances in a fully professional atmosphere presented for corporations, museums, gardens, and live arts related venues. Music & Motion fulfills the need for providing young dancers with performing experience in a nurturing environment, while continually exciting audiences wherever they perform. The collaborative efforts of the entire company create a synergy rich in imagination, celebration and spirit.
