The Folk Alliance Announces Schedule for Regional Conferences
Folk Alliance Regional Groups develop programs that increase the awareness of folk music and dance performance opportunities in their territory. They bring together music business professionals from a several state(province) area and artists from or who would like to tour to that region.
Memphis, TN (PRWEB) July 26, 2006 -- The North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance (Folk Alliance) fosters and promotes traditional, contemporary, and multicultural folk music and dance, and related performing arts. Over the years the international organization has encouraged and developed regional networking groups under its umbrella.
Folk Alliance regional groups develop programs that increase the awareness of folk music and dance performance opportunities in their territory. They bring together music business professionals from a several state(province) area and artists from or who would like to tour to that region.
In 2006 the Regional Conferences will be held:
September 28 – October 1, 2006 –
The 7th Annual Southwest Regional Folk Alliance Conference (SWRFA) will be held at the Woodward Hotel & Conference Center, Austin Tex. www.swrfa.com
October 12 - 15, 2006 –
Folk Alliance Canada will join with the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals’ conference this year at the Crowne Plaza, Ottawa, Ont. Canada www.ocff.ca
October 13 - 15, 2006 –
FARM Gathering 2006 (Folk Alliance Region Midwest) will be held at the Kellogg Research Center, Battle Creek, Mich. www.farmfolk.org
November 10 - 12, 2006 –
NERFA (Northeast Region) will be held at the Kutsher’s Resort & Conference Center, Monticello, NY www.nefolk.org
November 17 - 20, 2006 –
Far-West Region, will be held at the Sacramento Marriott Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, Calif. www.far-west.org
Each conference offers many showcase opportunities and pertinent seminar topics. You can help build a stronger folk music community, all the while advancing your career and gaining valuable contacts. Artists, managers, agents, promoters, media of all types, as well as enthusiastic folks who come to listen, find a common bond, make new friends, and discover new music in their own backyards.
The international Folk Alliance conference, held each February, has become the annual “town hall” of the folk community. Nearly 2,000 of our 2,400 members attend to conduct business, connect with their peers, and simply recharge their batteries for the coming year.
Two of the showcase artists from each regional conference will be given the opportunity to showcase at the international conference in Memphis in February, 2007. All registrants to the “Regionals” get the special discount rate to the International Folk Alliance conference in Memphis.
