Former Five Thirty Frontman to Release First Album in Ten Years

The Eskimo Project is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Paul Bassett. (PRWEB) July 30, 2006 -- The Eskimo Project is the lovechild of singer-songwriter Paul Bassett. In a career that has spanned 15 years from cult Mod guitar hero with pre-Britpop pioneers Five Thirty, to 300 gigs a year over four years with indie favorites Orange Deluxe. Paul has long established himself as a prolific and intelligent songwriter and highly regarded artist.

Despite the popularity and relative success of Orange Deluxe in Europe and the Far East, the major music-industry ‘munching machine’ devoured the bands’ label, Dead Dead Good and all business ceased immediately. Paul found himself off the road and on a downward spiral of alcohol and barbiturate dependence, arrested only when the responsibility of impending parenthood broke the malaise. Paul then entered upon what John Lennon had affectionately dubbed the “bread making” years. Fatherhood and marriage ensued and despite a desire to step away from the industry that had left him so cold, the music would not stop. “No matter how much I wanted to, I just couldn’t turn the tap off…” A chance meeting with drummer and long-time Five Thirty fan Phil Speight led to weekly recording sessions that initially acted as therapy for both but that over time grew into a wonderful collection of simple songs...

And so the ‘Eskimo Project’ was born. A project because there were never any preconceptions other than to record the songs in their purest form. And it was the resultant songs themselves that have led the call for release to a wider audience, and despite some initial misgivings because of their intensely personal nature, Paul has finally relented and allowed his creations to fly the nest…

Degrees of happiness is an album packed with beautifully crafted songs and insatiably addictive melody, but more than anything is an insight into the unique journey of a man battling his personal demons and slowly becoming at ease with himself and the joy and fears of family life.
