Rose Lee Archer joined thousands of our nations women business owners at the Women's Business Enterprise National Council's (WBENC) 2006 national conference business fair, the largest event of its kind in the nation. As an independent award winning journalist and the 2002 Women in Business Advocate of the Year, Rose Lee interviewed VP's from General Motors, AVIS and UPS to discuss their vision for their company's diversity supplier programs and how new corporate opportunities will grow women owned businesses.

Rose Lee met up with Susan Bari, the President of the WBENC, and founding architect of WBENC in 1997, Bari has grown the organization to become the nation's leading third-party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women. Rose Lee asked Bill Moon, UPS, VP Global Sourcing for Supplier Diversity and Executive Director of WBENC, what products and services UPS buys from women owned businesses. Moon responded "from marketing to office chairs."
Robert Bouta, Avis/Budget rental cars discussed with Rose Lee the process Avis uses to identify products and services of women owned businesses. Bouta was inspired by his assistant, who is a single mother of a daughter with MS as well as his own brother who was physically disabled to create the Avis Access program that offers cars and scooters for rent to persons with physical challenges who travel for business or pleasure.
Rose Lee was excited to hear from Roderick Gillum, General Motors, VP Corporate Responsibility & Diversity. Gillum announced GM’s new alliance with WBENC by committing to more contracts with women owned businesses. Gillum said, he helped a minority-women owned business grow her trucking company to almost 1 billion dollars a year in contracts, since she started with the program in 1989.
