Robert Neal Marshall plays FDNY Captain Jay Jonas of Ladder 6 in “Countdown To Ground Zero” a two hour special presentation as part of 9/11 week on the History Channel ®: Moments of Courage, Acts of Grace, Triumphs of Will, World Premiere Sunday, August 13, 2006 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Repeating Sat Aug 14 at 12am, Fri. Aug 18 at 8pm and Sun Aug 19 at 12am ET/PT.

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 9, 2006 -- "Countdown To Ground Zero" is a powerful documentary style television special that uses real interviews and dramatic re-creations to explore the events of 9/11 as both a tribute and in depth look at the tragic unraveling of the day. Premiering Sunday, August 13, 2006 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The History Channel.

Actor/Director Robert Neal Marshall (http://www.RobertNealMarshall.com) plays New York Fire Department Captain Jay Jonas (now a Battalion Chief) who on September 11, 2001 with his men from the Chinatown based Ladder 6 “Dragonfighters” were only a few of the hundreds of responders to the attacks on the World Trade Center. Like so many other brave Firefighters, Police Officers and other rescue crews, their orders were to ascend the burning towers and help as many people as possible.

On the 27th floor of the North Tower Jonas and his men felt a terrible rumble as the South Tower imploded and collapsed. Without effective communications, and not knowing how much time was left, Jonas made the difficult call to try and save his crew by heading back down Stairwell B.

On the way down they came across an injured Josephine Harris who had already walked down from the 73rd floor. Knowing that any delay could risk further lives, Jonas made the tough decision to bring Harris with them. That choice turned out to be the best call. The Ladder 6 team made it to the 4th floor landing when Harris could go no further. Jonas entered the floor for an office chair to help carry Harris, only to find empty mechanical works. That’s when the North Tower began its horrific 13 second collapse. Jonas managed to dive back into Stairwell B to be with his men, thinking it was all over.

When the violent screeching, tearing and pounding of concrete and metal had stopped, to their stunned disbelief the Ladder 6 team and Josephine Harris, along with a few others, became the only 14 survivors buried in the shell of the World Trade Center North Tower B Stairwell.

Robert Neal Marshall has played leading roles in several recent projects, including "A Haunting" & "FBI Files" for Discovery Channel, "America's Most Wanted" for Fox, "Interpol Investigates" for National Geographic Channel and "Family Night", an independent short with Tori Davis. Stage credits include Principal Snelgrove in the Off-Broadway Interactive Comedy hit "Awesome 80's Prom", among others. Mr. Marshall’s musical "Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter" as writer/director, and based on Diane Stanley’s award winning book, was presented at the 2005 Edinburgh Festival at the Assembly Rooms in Scotland and is currently in pre-production for both a US and UK Tour.

The Ladder 6 "Dragonfighters" chronicle from the firehouse the night before to their dramatic rescue from under the rubble at Ground Zero is one of several emotional storylines presented in "Countdown To Ground Zero", directed by Carsten Oblaender. Executive Producer for The History Channel is Carl H. Lindahl. Produced for The History Channel by Story House Productions.
