The Wharton Club of New York Hosts The Joseph Wharton Awards Dinner

The Wharton Club of N.Y. is hosting its premiere business school alumni event in New York City: The Joseph Wharton Awards Dinner on September 28, 2006 at the Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Plaza. The Wharton name is recognized as a leader in business education, innovation and global outreach. The 2006 dinner aims to be the preeminent event for The Wharton Club of New York and to celebrate Wharton's pursuit of excellence and excellence withIn the alumni community.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 23, 2006 -- The Wharton Club of New York is hosting its premiere Business School Alumni event in New York City: The Joseph Wharton Awards Dinner. The event will take place on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Plaza to coincide with the 125th anniversary of the Wharton Business School. The Wharton Club of New York is proud to bring back the Joseph Wharton Awards Dinner, which was last held about 15 years ago.

Previous award recipients include: James D. Robinson III, Chairman and CEO of American Express, Laurence A. Tisch, Chairman and CEO of CBS and Loews Corp., John Sculley III, CEO of Apple Computers, Nelson A. Rockefeller, former Vice President of the United States of America and William Paley, Chairman and CEO of CBS. The Wharton name is recognized as a leader in business education, innovation and global outreach. The 2006 dinner aims to be the preeminent event for the Wharton Club of New York and to celebrate Wharton’s pursuit of excellence and excellence within the alumni community. Geoffrey T. Boisi, Chairman and Senior Partner of Roundtable Investment Partners LLC and retired Vice Chairman of JPMorgan Chase will serve as Honorary Chairman of the dinner.

Awards will be given in the following categories:
Award for Lifetime Achievement presented to Alvin V. Shoemaker. Shoemaker, a private investor, is the former Chairman of the Board of First Boston, Inc. and of the First Boston Corporation.
Award for Leadership presented to Harold W. McGraw. As Chairman and CEO of McGraw-Hill, McGraw has grown his firm into one of the foremost publishing and media firms in the world with sales of $6 billion in 2005.

Award for Social Impact presented to Connie K. Duckworth. Duckworth is a retired Partner and Managing Director of Goldman, Sachs & Co. She was named the first woman sales and trading partner in the firm’s history. She currently serves pro bono as President and Chairman of The Board of Arzu Inc., a non-profit organization focused on enhancing economic opportunities for women in Afghanistan.

Award for Young Leadership presented to Josh Kopelman. Kopelman is a serial entrepreneur and internet pioneer. He founded three highly successful start-ups: Infonautics (which went to IPO on the NASDAQ), Half.Com (which was sold to EBAY), and Turntide (which was sold to Symantec). Kopelman currently serves as Managing Director of First Round Capital, a seed-stage Venture Fund.
