Davy Jones Sends Halloween Fans on a Treasure Hunt

Despite many companies’ claims to have access to Davy Jones masks and costumes, they are not available from the company that originally licensed them. Customers must be wary about ordering this item if it is not listed as “currently in stock” or “ready to ship” to avoid waiting for a mask that may never arrive

Bellingham, WA (PRWEB) September 24, 2006 -- Some confusion exists about the availability of costumes and masks from the popular film, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.” Although several online e-tailers claim to have the deluxe, octopus-faced mask and/or Davy’s sea-grimy costume, when customers place an order, they are often told that these items are not currently available. Depending on where they ask, the mask may be “on backorder,” “due any day,” or “out of stock for the season.” Bloggers are being polled for guidance in finding them.

In truth, according to one e-tailer, the mask is available, but only at a few outlets. “Disney pulled the plug on the licensing,” said James Burke, owner of SpookShop.com. “We ordered both the mask and the costume early in the season, but have not – and will not – receive any of them.” Apparently, the licensing agreement between Disney and Disguise, the costume company offering the items, failed. One small shipment of about 500 pieces came in to a distributor, who sold out quickly. Customers may have to pay a premium - of seven online stores that claim to have the mask, prices ranged from $49.95 to a whopping $149.99.

“It’s not uncommon for something to change between the time a product is licensed and when it’s actually produced,” said Burke. “The Lightning McQueen costume from “Cars” is shown on the packaging with working headlights, but the headlights don’t light up, because in the film, they were only decals.” Less common is for an item to be made unavailable at all.

For a list of e-tailers that may have Davy Jones in stock, please contact Customer Service at www.spookshop.com.
