Buffalo, NY (PRWEB) September 30, 2006 -- Hockey’s Future.com, the #1 hockey prospect site, has released its preseason ranking of the top 50 NHL prospects. This feature, which is released by the site twice per year, is one of the most popular features at Hockey’s Future.com.
Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Evgeni Malkin tops the list, followed by Atlanta Thrashers goaltender Kari Lehtonen and St. Louis Blues defensive prospect Erik Johnson. Another U.S.-born defenseman, Jack Johnson of the Stanley Cup-winning Carolina Hurricanes, is ranked fourth on this list, while center Ryan Getzlaf of the Anaheim Ducks is ranked fifth. Rounding out the top 10 are Columbus Blue Jackets center Gilbert Brule; 2006 Conn Smythe winner Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes; Russian winger Alexander Semin of the Washington Capitals; 2005-06 AHL Rookie of the Year and Los Angeles Kings prospect Patrick O’Sullivan; and Swedish center Nicklas Backstrom of the Washington Capitals.
A committee of writers from Hockey’s Future.com compiled the list, with the players included meeting the prospect criteria set forth by the site. The ranked players, as well as those that did not make the final list, come from many of the top developmental leagues in hockey, including the AHL, OHL, QMJHL, WHL, NCAA and Europe. The entire top 50 can be viewed at http://hockeysfuture.com/top50.php.
“We are pleased to present this latest update to our top 50 rankings”, said Ken McKenna, Managing Editor of Hockey’s Future.com. “The top 50 is one of the most highly anticipated features produced by this site, as it caters to both avid hockey fans as well as fantasy hockey players. Everyone that follows the game is interested in who the stars of tomorrow might be, so our rankings help to fill that void.”
