Douglas R Gilbert in Major Show at California Museum

Michigan photographer featured in major California show. Douglas R Gilbert, who recently released "Forever Young: Photographs of Bob Dylan", is featured in a photography retrospective at the Norton Simon Museum.

Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) September 28, 2006 -- Photographer, Douglas R. Gilbert, a native of Michigan, is honored to be part of The Collectible Moment: Photographs in the Norton Simon Museum, opening on October 13, 2006 and running through February 26, 2007 at the Norton Simon Museum of Pasadena, California. According to the Museum, the show is a “first-ever survey show of the Museum’s photography collection, which was assembled by its predecessor institution, the Pasadena Art Museum.”

The exhibit has been organized by Norton Simon Museum Curator Gloria Williams Sander and includes 145 photographs. In addition to Gilbert, other photographers in the exhibit include: Ansel Adams, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Imogen Cunningham, Judy Dater, Robbert Flick, Robert Heinecken, Anthony Hernandez, Arthur Siegel, Aaron Siskind, Frederick Sommer, Edmund Teske, Jerry Uelsmann, and Edward Weston. A 344-page collectible catalog and a series of lectures pertaining to the included artists and photographs will accompany the exhibit.

Gilbert has been a serious photographer for more than forty (40) years. His work has been published in countless national and international publications, including as a staff photographer at Look Magazine, and freelance work for the Saturday Evening Post and Glamour. Gilbert’s photographs are in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, as well as in many private and institutional collections. Now living in Ferrysburg, Michigan, Gilbert is currently working on a project examining the spectacular light of Italy.

Recently, Gilbert has released his fourth book, Forever Young: Photographs of Bob Dylan, and another book, C. S. Lewis: Images of His World has been re-issued. The photographs in the book of Bob Dylan have been shown in Los Angeles, Boston and London. Forever Young: Photographs of Bob Dylan will be available in soft cover this fall.
