Beacon Street Girls Team Up with Boston Red Sox, Teachers, Parents and Kids For Fenway Fun and to Support Literacy

This Sunday, the Beacon Street Girls, the five preteen best friends who are the stars of a fun and friendship-focused book series and online world, are going to Fenway Park as part of a special literacy-focused day with the Boston Red Sox.

Lexington, MA (PRWEB) September 9, 2006 -- This Sunday, the Beacon Street Girls, the five preteen best friends who are the stars of a fun and friendship-focused book series and online world, are going to Fenway Park as part of a special literacy-focused day with the Boston Red Sox. On the same day, hundreds of area school children, teachers and parents are attending the Red Sox game versus the Kansas City Royals to celebrate literacy and the power of reading.

"A visit to Fenway is an exciting way to celebrate the power of reading,” said Addie Swartz, the CEO of B*tween Productions and the mother of two tween girls. “We appreciate the Red Sox helping us deliver a home run event to support literacy for the children of Boston.”

BSG Contest Winner Attends Game
Prides Crossing, MA fifth-grader Miranda Bakos and her parents will be spending the day at the game as the guests of the Boston Red Sox and the Beacon Street Girls. Miranda won her family’s tickets through the BSG Fenway Fun Essay Contest with an essay about her wish to meet Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling.

The BSG Fenway Fun Essay Contest celebrated the publication of the eighth Beacon Street Girls book, “Lucky Charm.” The girls’ pet dog, Marty, is lost, and subsequently found by a Red Sox player. The Beacon Street Girls get to attend a game at Fenway and meet their favorite player.

Girls were given two options for their essays. The first option was to pick a player they wanted to meet and tell why, and discuss what they would talk about. The second option was to discuss what it means to be a fan and what they are a fan of.

Activities and Giveaways at Fenway
Volunteers from B*tween Productions, publisher of the Beacon Street Girls books, will be on hand with free BSG giveaways, including copies of the company’s recent baseball-related book, Lucky Charm.

In addition to the Beacon Street Girls, the Massachusetts Teachers Association will be on hand, making presentations to the winners of the Red Sox Reading Game, part of their literacy initiative called Reading Matters http://www.readingmatters.org/ Designed to encourage K-8 students to be “World Champion readers,” the program gave them the chance to read their way to Fenway by reading over the summer.
