Planetree President Susan Frampton to Speak at Japanese Healthcare Symposium

Susan. B. Frampton, Ph.D., President of Planetree, has been invited by nonprofit organization Japan Society for Quality in Healthcare (JSQua) to speak at a symposium in Japan.

Derby, CT (PRWEB) February 7, 2007 -- Susan. B. Frampton, Ph.D., President of Planetree, has been invited by nonprofit organization Japan Society for Quality in Healthcare (JSQua) to speak at a symposium in Japan. The Symposium, titled "Teamwork in Healthcare-Improvement of Healthcare Quality--Patient's Health Literacy and the Role of Hospital Libraries" is supported by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare and the Uehara Foundation. It will be held on February 10, 2007 at St. Luke School of Nursing in Japan.

Frampton will give two presentations. The first, titled "Putting Patients First: The Planetree Model of Patient-Centered Care," will focus on the more than one hundred and twenty Planetree member hospitals across the United States, Canada and Europe that currently serve as laboratories for best practices in patient-centered care. In this presentation, many of these patient-centered practices will be shared, along with the evidence supporting the health benefits of these approaches.

In her second shorter presentation, "Putting Patients First: Access to Information," Frampton will discuss how the Planetree model has long emphasized the importance of providing meaningful information to patients so that they can truly be partners in their own care. Frampton will also share many examples of how a healthcare organization can support patient education and access to information.

Currently based in Derby, CT, Planetree was founded in 1978 by a patient in San Francisco. Today Planetree is an internationally recognized leader in the growing movement to transform the health care experience by considering health care facilities, processes and protocols from the perspective of the patient. In diverse healthcare settings throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, Planetree is demonstrating that patient-centered care is not only an empowering philosophy, but a viable, vital, and cost-effective model of care.
