Cleveland Clinic Medical Guide, "Stop Smoking NOW!," Reveals How To Kick The Habit

Cleveland Clinic Press releases a consumer health book on quitting smoking.

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) July 26, 2007 -- Once a pack-a-day smoker, retired Cleveland Clinic (clevelandclinic.org) psychologist Gary DeNelsky, Ph.D., has written "Stop Smoking NOW!," a new medical guide from Cleveland Clinic Press.

Dr. DeNelsky worked at the Clinic for more than 30 years and founded the hospital's first smoking cessation program 20 years ago.

His health book summarizes traditional and nontraditional programs, techniques, and medications to help people stop smoking, including hypnosis, acupuncture, and relaxation methods. He discusses the power of nicotine and the psychological meanings of smoking to illustrate the stranglehold of tobacco addiction.

"Stop Smoking NOW!" outlines the basic principles of quitting, as well as how to maintain a smoke-free lifestyle and cope with urges to smoke. Dr. DeNelsky's medical book also contains tips on how to encourage family and friends to refrain from smoking, and it shares stories about the powerful influence of the tobacco industry.

"If I can quit smoking, anybody who is committed to leading a smoke-free life can do so as well," Dr. DeNelsky says. "Had I not quit, I might not be alive today. Today, I have more energy and stamina for physical activities such as tennis and biking."

Many "stop smoking" books tell of the journey to a smokeless existence, but Dr. DeNelsky adds that the real secret to kicking the habit is not about techniques or programs. "It's more about one's desire and commitment to live a life without tobacco," he says.
